Players with pace and the pace of play. 22:49 - Oct 5 with 814 views | cbower | We have plenty of players with pace. O'Shea, Burns, Delap, Ogbene, Hutchinson, Tuanzebe, Clarke, Davis etc. However, this season for the most part at least, we seem to be moving the ball with less tempo. We look a decent side when we pass and move at a quicker tempo. We are capable of counter attacking at pace - see Delap's goal against Fulham and his second against Villa. Unfortunately though, we seem more hesitant on the transition, too keen to slow it down. See Fulham on the transition. Players breaking their necks to get up and into the box. When Delap starts running, we don't have players getting up there with him in general. I'm watching Thomas Frank on MotD. Get the ball forward as quickly as possible he says. That doesn’t mean lump it forward, it's passing football with attacking intent. With the pace we have at our disposal, do people not think we should be playing with a faster tempo? Players with pace and the pace of play. on 07:58 - Oct 6 with 534 views | CopfordBlue | The step up in the quality of opponents between last season and this is huge. Positive passes that 9 times out of 10 last season would have found a blue shirt are being intercepted more often than not. When we lose the ball during transition we are now being punished with a first time pass that hurts us. Last season when we lost the ball we were usually able to win it back without any damage being done. If our forward pass makes it to its target in the premier league our player on the ball rarely has time to get into their stride before being put under pressure. When we’re in possession, teammates can’t find the space in the areas they want to be in. We are slowing play down at times but my reading of it is that that’s because there are spells when we just need to get into the game and have some of the ball, otherwise it would be relentless from opponents. We’re now having to play the type of football that our opponents have against us for two years. I’m still confident that KM will find the right answers and our squad will adapt but it’s going to be bumpy, especially during this first half of the season. | |
