I was at that game. In the days before hard wired segregation, often relying on the " thin blue line" of policeman plod between the two sets of fans in the thrn, North Stand. When the Lonfon clubs czn down the vast number of away fans radically overwhelmed the police presence, so they let nature takes ur course. I can fudtinctky remember in this game every time Yown scored they'd be the rumble of advancing Spurs fans from the back of the North Stand, kicking and oubching 6 bells out of any celebrating Town fans. I was just a kid, and as the 4th goal went in the usual Spurs fan " attacks" ensued, with huge gaps appearing amongst the Town fans as they tried to get out if the way of the boots and fists. I remember turning to face them and shouting, " you can kick sh it out of us as much as you like, but my team is winning and yours is loding, and no amount of kicking is going to change that"! I was thst oeed off with them... I was past caring if I got booted from piller to post. Town won 4-0 and that was how football matches were in those days..... UPPA TOWEN | |
