The hour mark and lack of... belief? 09:09 - Jan 17 with 500 viewspointofblue

So far this season, we've only been more than a goal behind at the hour mark this season on four occasions (Man City, West Ham, Everton and Newcastle). In every other game we've given ourselves a chance to get something entering the final half hour of normal time. But that's where it swings. Last season we were in the same position and would start dictating and pushing from that moment. This season, for often than not, we seem to fade. The reason is obvious - our lack of depth, particularly in the forward areas. Other teams can bring on players who would walk into our starting XI, such as the likes of Rutter and Welbeck last night.

The other, bigger, concern is how we often seem to fade when we concede, especially if it's to go down rather than the opposition drawing level. Other than Villa, Manchester United and, oddly, West Ham at 1-0, I can't think of a game where we've trailed and have looked like getting back into it. Even at Southampton, the equaliser was somewhat undeserved - indeed, that game was similar to last night in we were at least equal if not the better team up to their goal and then quickly faded.

Whatever it is, whether it's a lack of ability or belief, to stay upbwe need to find this, to coin a Warnock term, bouncebackability. Last night, in the cold light of day, wasn't an aberration. It's how most games have gone this season, albeit perhaps the most extreme of them all.

Some of that is the weakness of our bench option, glaringly so when we have injuries as last night and I suppose some of that is who the opposition can bring on late on - Dunk, Rutter and Welbeck last night FFS.

You can add Brentford to your list where we've equalised and I think we did well there given the man disadvantage but, yes, agree on that we don't really look like we believe we can get back into games. And that goes back to our biggest problem this season, we just don't score enough goals - which is in stark contrast to the last two seasons.

Brentford I wasn't so sure about as we conceded, then immediately conceded again, then went 3-2 down. It was a real mini collapse. True, we did do well to get back on level terms but we didn't recover for a while from conceding in the first place.
