The Damned played at the Gaumont around 1979 / 1980, not sure which year but know it was a Saturday as I saw Dave Vanian in the Ipswich M&S Food Hall at lunchtime. He looked like he'd just walked off stage, black cape, white face and eyeliner. Thinking about it though, Brian James may have left The Damned by then, I dunno.

I'm a bit late to this, but that's a real shame.
New Rose, the first UK punk single to be released and a cracker, was written by him.
I believe the Damned also released the first UK punk album, [Post edited 12 Mar 14:09]
