Why do so many of the protesters, who are "not racist", drape themselves in union flags and St. George's crosses? How does that protect the children, in any way?
Also, don't they see the irony of singing "Rule Britannia, Britannia Rules The Waves", then complaining about being invaded?
They are so patriotic that they don't even get the words right. It is: "Rule Britannia, Britannia, rule the waves", an exhortation or wish, not a statement of superiority.
(Just as some Town fans used to get Edward Eb wrong, with the correct version "Everybody, call me Ted" (request, not statement) now being generally accepted following last season's cartoons / illustrations.)

I get where you're coming from but that doesn't explain why you *appear* to infer that the flags are linked to racism.
Don't you think the flags are a statement? "Look, we are British and this is Britain. You are not welcome." Unless there's another reason for the flags, that I'm missing.

Whilst true with no other context, it’s also true that racist movements in England have hijacked the St George’s Cross, unfortunately. (See J2s post top of thread).

No idea but they shouldn't be allowed to hijack the meaning of the flags.
The UK has had an identity crisis for a long time when it comes to any form of patriotism. It’s a crying shame that flying the flag is associated with right wing politics but it’s basically true and also unbelievable at the same time.
I always notice how many houses and porches in my neighborhood (a left wing city) fly the Stars and Stripes proudly but it winds me up that in England, a lot of folks associate any form of national pride with some weird form of racism or nativism.
I mean just look what the OP is insinuating here as well as going back to empire stuff, which whatever your thoughts of the protests is surely not what its what it’s about in terms of the incidents it’s related to.
