Hull have been having a strong season, and of course were missing key players, but they were really not close to us tonight, and they also gave us rare space on a big pitch, but we just couldn’t get our game going to punish them, with looseness, errors and missed killer passes across the team. With McAteer, Nunez and Cajuste frustrating. But unlike earlier in the season our centre backs were imperious, with furlong defensively robust (maybe not going forward), and Matisuwa went full Gandalf mode, so when Hull did come forward they couldn’t trouble us. And perhaps blue spectators didn’t quite realise Hull were working their socks off, fouling (should have been a second yellow) to keep us out, alongside our own lethargy and error strewn play. But as soon as the subs came and Taylor improved us, we just moved up half a gear and the gap between us and a top six form side was huge. Should have had 4. Great for Akpom. And great that Nunez saved his performance with the goal. Shame Philogene didn’t get the goal he deserved. Egeli looked sharp. Friday we can go second - despite still not being out of second gear this season. Crazy league. Time to raise our game. But a note of caution, Saints are rising and are only 3 points off us (having played a game more). So frankly we need to now go on a run. [Post edited 25 Nov 2025 22:24]
