My late father and I dolled out the latter away rounds of the UEFA Cup that season. That was his first away match for many years. He was almost fully recovered from a major heart op that gave him another 10 years of life he wouldn't have had. He came home and said he couldn't believe what he saw, he didn't believe his team could play football like that. To absolutely murder a team of stars who were almost unbeatable on their own patch was quite something. Whether we ever see the likes again, I don't know, but what an absolute priviledge that season was. I've not a shadow of doubt that team if subject to todays conditions and training regimes would without breaking sweat be in the top 4 of todays PL and quite possibly top 2.
