Will be missed and deserves more credit than town fans are giving him Remember Barnsley

I also remember the winless run when he got injured, we looked disjointed and toothless in the final third. Thank goodness we got Keiffer in to fill the void.

Scrolled past him in the stoke kit earlier, a little tinge of pain seeing it.

It was his time, but I do have a soft spot for him and that Barnsley goal lives beautifully in my head...

He was a very good player for us and deserves to be remembered fondly. I think most fans have given him a lot credit.

Was it 3.5 seasons?

He does deserve credit as did well for us but he has moved at the rights time however. His first 2.5 seasons were the best however. I wish him great success in the future and was really pleased to see him score today.

He also dropped to league 1 for us when he could have stayed in the championship

Nowhere near good enough for the level we are at now. Sentimental hogwash to suggest otherwise.

harsh but true. But I certainly appreciate the effort he made for us and remember him fondly, particularly those early seasons.

Not really, given we have arguably even less qualified players still on the books here, some of which are still in the team. It remains to be seen if the current team can better the unfairly maligned “League One” boys at this level, and making the assumption simply because it’s new, and it costs more, it’s immediately better without really seeing much of it is a pretty blinkered and unrealistic view of football overall. People made those assumptions about the 24/25 signings too.

Pre Injury Hirst was/is a different beast to post injury Hirst

especially as post injury, he was 2nd fiddle to Delap and you saw his confidence never came back
