Possibly a change in the balance of power, e.g. a clan or other grouping swapping allegience. Tere are certainly a number of separatist splinter groups who are fighting everybody else. Maybe better weapons and ammo supplies.
It's also quite early to say how permanent the recent Houthi gains will be. The Saudis are very revved up, as control of the Bab el Mendeb is crucial for allowing them to use their oil pipelines to circumvent the blockade of the Straits of Hormuz. |  |

The Saudis are only directly involved through air raids. The USA not at all, currently.
This is fighting between different tribal/militia/faction elements. The forces are not large, nor do they have the staying power of more significant national militaries. Their backers dip in and out of the conflict, depending upon how much they need it to boost other agendas, so the relative strengths and equipping fluctuate. | |

In regards to the captured island, this was only defended by Saudi-backed militias, probably not as well equipped as the Iranian backed Houthi’s (Iran has spent billions arming its proxies). There was also a fragile ceasefire between the different factions backed by Saudi and Iran, which has slowly been collapsing over the last couple of months.
The pipeline is on the Saudi mainland, it’s not yet clear whether it was local sabotage, or a drone/missile strike (probably the latter). The Gulf states have struggled to defend energy infrastructure, because Iran/proxies have used swarm tactics to evade ground to air missile defences.
Ironically the US will benefit from the uplift to oil prices given it’s the world’s largest producer but has some of the highest extraction costs. Obviously it’s feeding into inflation through which is why Trump keeps attacking the Fed. ECB have already increased rates this week so the outlook isn’t great without a lasting cessation of hostilities between the US and Iran. | | | |
