Boss Jim Magilton felt his side created a number of good chances against a Burnley team which had come to Portman Road with containment in mind. The Town manager was pleased with the way central midfielders Owen Garvan and Sylvain Legwinski gelled.

Magilton said: "Burnley came with a game plan and were very difficult to break down. We created some good chances and showed lots of character.

"Even after we conceded the late goal we kept passing the ball and believing. I was proud of my players and Alan Lee kept his composure to take a very good penalty.

"It was a hard-earned point but my team is not far away and, once they build their confidence, they will take some stopping."

Garvan and Legwinski started in central midfield for the first time since the Irish youngster's illness and Magilton was pleased with the way they performed: "They are both good footballers who compliment one another excellently."

Burnley boss Steve Cotterill didn't think Town should have been awarded their late penalty: "I don't begrudge Ipswich a late goal because they have been on the end of a few recently. I just begrudge the late goal because it happened against us.

"I didn't think that it was a corner in the first place, although the referee did well to spot the handball in a melee.

"Gifton Noel-Williams tells me he was pushed before he handled. I don't think he'd gone out to handle purposely.

"Crowds and players can help make up a referee's mind and Ipswich were in the ascendancy at that period.

"It was disappointing to be pegged back after we had gone a goal up so late on."
