Sheffield United have sacked manager Ruben Selles following Friday’s 5-0 thrashing by the Blues at Portman Road.

That defeat was the Blades’ fifth of the season in the Championship leaving them bottom of the table without a point, while they also exited the Carabao Cup at the first-round stage.

Last season, the South Yorkshiremen finished third in the table before unluckily losing 2-1 to Sunderland in the play-off final.

Manager Chris Wilder left the club following the failure to win promotion with former Hull City and Reading boss Selles taking over in June.

Wilder is now expected to return for a third spell in charge at Bramall Lane.

muccletonjoe added 11:13 - Sep 14 No one who saw the game on friday will be surprised at that. Looks like we played them at exactly the right time. I can't see it being such an easy game if they put Wilder back in charge for the next one.

ringwoodblue added 11:29 - Sep 14 Sellés was a strange appointment as was Martin at Rangers and I suspect both will be looking for new jobs soon. Wilder must be raking the money in being continually sacked and reappointed to the same job. I think Sheff Utd should go with Steve Cooper

They looked a threat against us in the first 20 mins on Friday, with a lot of possession and good pressing. If we're honest, they were unlucky for 2 of our goals. If they had scored early on or if they had played an easy Championship team it could have been a different scenario for him.

Sorry for him as his recent record is so poor and I don't think many EFL teams will want him on their short lists. Wilder will not be the answer third time as the championship has moved on in his absence. There are a lot of young hungry managers like our KMc with more progressive ideas.

Bert added 12:03 - Sep 14 Just like us he had a lot of new faces to blend into his team but unlike us the top brass at SU haven’t really given Selles enough time to make it work.Wilder has sentiment with him but he is old school so may not be enough to address why they collapsed towards the end of last season.
