The riches on offer in the Premier league, the star players, the shine of new stadiums , all those things were there. When the spot lights and fireworks had faded however, we were able to see what the Premier League is really about. The bank balance of those routine relegation avoiders bulges by various amounts exceeding £150 million every season, making it more unlikely with each passing season that any club coming up from the championship will be able to gatecrash this party. Those clubs who find themselves regularly jostling for position in the Lower half of the league have now got the comfort of knowing the promoted clubs are highly unlikely to have the financial ability to compete with them, let alone being able to cope with the rest of the circus , which features the headline acts of referees dishing out decisive moments like clowns with buckets of water and the VAR ringmasters seemingly much more eager to see justice done for their regular customers on the Premier league fixture list , than the single season visitors from the championship. Should the Town find themselves in a position this time next season to make another attempt at the elite, at least we will all have fresh memories of what can and more than likely, will be awaiting us in another ride through gold lined grounds of the Premier league. It will never be a level playing field , however, and if we can actually survive a season with the odds stacked against us , it will be despite the decisions going against us on a regular basis rather than because we got a fair crack of the whip. |

Anyone trying to see it any other way , is very much clutching at straws. When the dust has settled though , it has to be seen in context, our players are in no doubt relegation is coming, Arsenal knew they had a team to over run us , and on the back of a major European win 4 days previous, confidence was sky high. Davis getting red carded cemented those facts even further into the psyche of the game. Next season , when the opposition isn't of the same quality, our own confidence will need to return, because at the moment it is shot to pieces , from playing it out of the back and getting the ball taken off us like school kids , to playing it out of our own half and rushing into the wrong pass or a snapshot which has no hope of finding the target. Couple this with injured players returning to full fitness and hungry to do well, we have to hope that everything returns to the previous 2 seasons and confidence returns to the whole team and our way of playing. |

The chances of surviving this season were stacked against us. If they then went ahead and negotiated this contract for Delap, they have left us in a very precarious state for next season in the championship. All we can do is watch this space. But the potential is there already for the club to be faced with building at least 50% of the current squad. Never mind if we have the money or not. We are looking at bedding in alot of new faces yet again. |

...Is the defence The 8 players in and out of those positions have not secured a regular place, hence so many different combinations. We either pick the best 4 and hope they gel together. Or bring in a stronger back line. I do think palmer will be adequate for the championship. Going back up with anything like our current defensive capabilities would result in exactly same thing as this season |
