Barnsley v Ipswich Town Your Report added at 05:26:00
To be honest all of this starting 11 deserve at least an 8 . The way they worked their socks off to close down barnsley. Hirst gave one of the best centre forward displays we will ever see in a Town shirt . Held the ball , a constant threat to their defenders , got an outstanding goal and gave everything all night.

Still think this team would be better suited to 3 in Central midfield and 2 up front

If there is to be a day on friday by the players to protest about social media, when do we get to protest against ( performances ?) Like this one against Wimbledon ?

Second half i thought some of our attacking play was the best i have seen from town in a long while. If mick can tighten up a leaky defence then we may be in for a good season

Made a nonsense of the hoofball moaners. Ball was played exclusively on the pitch and whilst the passing was far from incisive, we did retain procession much better. Bart kept us in it with two or three first class saves. On the whole though, I think we just about shaded it.

my man of the match would have to be Williams , made things happen and you could see Watford were in panic mode when he had the ball , smith should retain his place in defence , was not overly impressed with hunt, too many crosses , corners , and free kicks went straight to the keeper , but did have a better second half

It was quite plain to see within the opening 10 minutes that the England players were feeling the pressure and very few of them were able to deal with it. The need to get a result from this game plus the return of suarez to the uruguay starting 11 gave an impetus to their attack which was all but missing completely from their previous game against Costa Rica. Even so the English players should have been well aware of what suarez was capable of and therefor the space they granted him to head home the opening goal was pretty much unforgivable. At the start of the second half it looked very much as though England would be completely outplayed as cross after cross came into their penalty area , each one being dealt with by an increasingly panick stricken defence. They did however survive this storm and manage to get themselves in control of the game by the time Rooney equalised from the only decisive run johnson made in the entire game. With the team on the front foot , and the score at 1 - 1 someone ( perhaps everyone ? ) Decided to press the break pedal. And once again passes were despatched and received across the pitch and it looked very much as if the draw would be enough for them. Not so suarez and uruguay as a long punt forward grazed the top of Gerrards head and landed ionvitingly for suarez to run onto a crack past Hart with consumate ease. There can and will be the usual gnashing of teeth about how much they are paid and how the tactics were not properly deployed in either game but , to my eyes , on many levels , we just were not good enough

The game as a whole was a fairly even affair. England went forward with pace and purpose particularly in the first half , sterling and wellbeck both causing problems to sluggish italian defence. It must be said , the italians could have drove a tractor down their right side with Baines often left with two players to deal with and no one covering the overlap. A problem which persisted and was not addressed for the entire game. The italians first goal came from a rehearsed corner on their right side and could hardly be blamed on an unsigjted joe hart. To their credit England replied with their best move of the game , a pinpoint pass from rooney ,dispatched clinically by sturriddge. After the break the italians continued to exploit the wide open spaces on the left of the english defence and it came as no surprise to me when a cross from this area lead to balotelli heading home the winning goal. The usual huff and puff followed from England with , it has to be said , very little effect. Could still qualify , provided the problem on the left is dealt with.

A scoreline which hardly reflects the way we played for long periods of the game , the first half was a real eye opener to what we are capable of producing with an attacking mentality running through the side. second half , at least after their first goal we failed to reach the same levels , and it all became a bit desperate after their second , 3 - 0 would have completely flattered them so it was nice to see tommy smith make amends for what looked a very unlucky and wicked 'bobble' which lead to the goal that killed the game . Everyone can be pleased with their performances throughout , particular mention to luke hyam , who imo was our man of the match

As Mick has admitted. There were too many changes made to the starting 11 as a result the play was disjointed and completely lacked attacking emphasis. Midfield is a particular concern , while we manage to get by with skuse, hyam and Tunnicliffe there really is very little alternative. The best 2 players today imo were Mings , who actually looked like he enjoyed the game and chambers who realy did ook assuring at centre half.

Staarting off like a steam train , town forced several corners in the first 10 minutes , thereafter the play fluctuated as both teams had periods of dominance without really testing the goalkeepers. After the break we got the brealthrough with a well worked goal from murphy and for a while it seemed we were gaining the upper hand , but once again , despite heroics from gerkin we were pegged back. From there on we looked to settle for a point we just about deserved. Good performances from gerkin , hyam and skuse . Worst show on the day came from cresswell , but can be forgiven for falling from his high standards.
