Town are ready to make a £600,000 bid for Rotherham striker Will Hoskins in January, according to a Sunday tabloid. The 20-year-old is currently the joint-second highest scorer in League One with 12 goals in 20 starts and three substitute appearances this season.

Hoskins made his debut for Rotherham as a 17-year-old academy player in November 2004, three months after Town striker Alan Lee left Millmoor. The frontman made an immediate impact, scoring twice in his second game, but failed to push on in the following two seasons.

New manager Alan Knill gave 5ft 9in-tall Hoskins his chance earlier this season and the Nottingham-born striker has started to fulfil the early promise which saw him win England caps at U18, U19 — alongside Dean Bowditch - and U20 levels.

This year's form has led to Celtic and Sheffield United being linked, but Hoskins, who is represented by Jonathan Barnett's Stellar Group, has said up to now that he is happy to stay with the Millers. Talks regarding an extension to his current contract, which is up in June, were reportedly set to begin last week.

Hoskins, who joined Rotherham's academy from Notts County as a 14-year-old, was named the League One Player of the Month for October and has made a total of 76 career appearances, scoring 22 goals.
