Peters Named Ambassador
Sunday, 4th Mar 2007 23:58

Town winger Jaime Peters has been named one of six ambassadors for host country Canada ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup being in June and July. Peters has already won 22 Canadian U20 caps in addition to his 12 full appearances.

The six all played in the previous U20 World Cup in Holland two years ago. In addition to Peters they are Newcastle's David Edgar, Asmir Begovic from Belgian side La Louviere, Jonathon Beaulieu-Bourgault from German club St Pauli, Dutch side Heerenveen's Will Johnson and Italian club Perugia's Andrea Lombardo.

Coach Dale Mitchell says the ambassadors will be the core of his country's challenge and will become household names in Canada during the tournament: “These six players should provide excellent leadership and experience to our squad during the U20 World Cup.

“They not only have the benefit of one of these tournaments under their belt but are all in a good professional environment on a daily basis. We believe they can be the catalysts for a successful showing for us this summer.”

The tournament, the biggest single-sport competition in Canadian history, starts on 30th June and runs until 22nd July.

Canada were grouped with Chile, Austria and Congo in Saturday's draw which was MCed by former Town keeper Craig Forrest, now a TV broadcaster back in his home country.
