New Adult Learning Scheme
New Adult Learning Scheme
Tuesday, 22nd May 2007 10:17

Town are one of the first football clubs in the country to open their doors to support adult learning, starting a new project entitled Sport4Choice to help Suffolk's sports fans kick out their maths and English gremlins.

Fans can kick off their skills at specific courses run from the IT Learning Zone — based at Portman Road - or take part in quizzes and fun sessions across the county.

The Learning Team will even travel, setting up a mobile IT Suite in companies, cafes and pubs throughout the county. Sport4Choice courses are free and all fans who come along and take part in the 45-minute introductory fun quiz are rewarded with a £10 Planet Blue voucher.

For those who enjoy the quiz and wish to extend their involvement with Sport4Choice, there is the opportunity to work towards an NVQ Level 1 in English or maths at the club. All fans who go on to take an NVQ test (equivalent to a GCSE) will be awarded a certificate of completion, two complimentary match tickets and a £50 Planet Blue voucher — along with their new qualification!

To team up with Ipswich Town and kick off your skills you have to live or work in Suffolk, be aged 16+ and not in full-time education. You must also not have a GCSE grade C or above in maths or English. Places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Already people have benefited from these courses with great experiences. A numeracy student said: “Learning at ITFC is different, more relaxed and nothing like my school experiences. The numeracy course that I was on has given me greater confidence and a sense of achievement.”

A literacy student added: “ITFC is a very different place to come and everyone has been really helpful and encouraging. I still get a bit scared, but I'm learning to deal with it. I'm also having fun and I wish I could have done something like this a long time ago.”

The Trust's learning manager, Sacha Frost, said Sport4Choice is a programme we are very proud of. It's great to see adults enjoying their experience, gaining new skills and meeting new people. It's a wonderful opportunity to improve your skills in a relaxed and fun way.”
