Birmingham Issue Statement on Taylor Assault Saturday, 9th Aug 2025 20:18 Birmingham City have issued a statement regarding the incident in which Jack Taylor appeared to assaulted by a supporter as Town celebrated George Hirst’s 95th-minute penalty in last night’s 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s.
While bottles were being thrown from the stand towards the celebrating Town players, as they clashed with some of the Birmingham team, a supporter tried to drag Taylor over the barrier before being pushed away by skipper Dara O’Shea.
The statement reads: “Birmingham City has a zero-tolerance policy towards violent and anti-social behaviour inside or around our stadium.
“The club is aware of an incident which took place during last night’s Sky Bet Championship fixture.
“Club officials are now supporting West Midlands Police with its ongoing investigation. Once the authorities have completed the investigation, the club will take the appropriate action.”
After the match manager Kieran McKenna confirmed that the Blues have reported the incident to the authorities.
“Jack’s alright,” he said. “Someone just showed me it. It’s obviously not ideal, but I think it’s been reported, so the authorities will deal with it.”
It’s not the first time the Blues have had issues with the home support at St Andrew’s. In the Worthington Cup semi-final second leg in January 2001, Birmingham supporters repeatedly invaded the pitch with referee Jeff Winter at one stage threatening to take the players off.
Since then, there have been other similar incidents at St Andrew’s, most notably a fan, who was later jailed, running on the pitch to attack then-Aston Villa forward Jack Grealish in March 2019.

There is some right neanderthals who go to football at St Andrews. More so than any other club in the country from my experience. A shame as fans of both clubs were mixing nicely in the pub beforehand and having a good laugh. It was a bit nasty out on the road after the game too.

Fans were despicable last night, but the players are a let down too. I know it's emotional conceding in that way but let us celebrate and restart the game. If players hadn't squared upto each other, the whole incident doesn't happen

Their fans were also throwing stuff at the officials as they walked off

So does Birmingham's statement not apply to their players? I bet they don't punish Klarer and/or Allsop after their parts in it all with the fact they both took off after Chappers which led to the brawl by the barrier. Thugs the lot of them and tarnishes their achievements from last season on day GODDAM 1. Great to see O Shea stepping in to help protect Taylor (and all the players) and showing up that "fan" on live TV

Top from O’Shea! Just what you want to see from your skipper

jazzback in fairness if Chaplin hadn’t smashed the ball into the Birmingham fans after the pen, their players wouldn’t have squared up to anyone. The players were annoyed with the decision as were the fans, but it only turned nasty after Chaplin smashed the ball into the crowd and not because of the decision or the scoring of the penalty. I love Chaplin and perhaps he didn’t mean it but that was the catalyst I’m afraid.

That is a good excuse if an opposition player had done it at Portman road our players would have surrounded them. Saying that their players were just thugs most of the game and with VAR could easily have been down to 9 men.

Statement says the right things. But claiming Birmingham has a zero tolerance policy is laughable. It has been that way at St Andrews for a very long time and simply doenst change. The most unpleasant ground in the country to visit.

Well I was there in 2001 and we were told then not to park near stadium nor wear team colours. That was the game Francis left the pitch in poor state in order to help them and of course it did as ball hit bump and Wright missed it! Plus we sat below their supporters who threw pies down on us etc during whole game!!

Pilgrimblue I was at that game with my wife and we left before the final whistle to get out early. Fans above us were urinating on the Town fans below, told a steward and I was told to F.O. by him. It was the most hostile environment at a ground I have ever been in (I'm nearly 70 now) and I've been to the Den in the 1970's!!! I think Birmingham should be ashamed their players and fans. I vowed never to return to St.Andrews again and haven't been back since, last night just reinforced my view, so sad.

Went to Uni in Brum some 25 years ago. Was told way back then to steer well clear of everywhere near StAndrews, day & night. Sounds like it's not just the area that hasn't changed. Shame, as most of the people were lovely everywhere I went around the city, especially the Chinese quarter. Wouldn't wander now though in some areas. Don't ever park your car around the ground unless you don't want it in one piece.

We seem to bring out the worst in fans ...remember wes burns was celebrating in front of Peterboroughs fans ,and one decided it was worth the effort to get up from His seat and spit at him ,he was given a 3 year ban

I get the shivers anytime anyone mentions " The Den ", I'm assuming the poster is refering to the infamous cup quarter final. Not a great place to win 6-1! Case of I was there and I wished I wasn't! On a less unpleasant but still totally unnecessary incident. I was at one of our European away ties back in the day, in Innsbruck. Paul Mariner got sent off, and as he was being shepherded off the pitch below where I was sitting, an Innsbruck supporter lept up off his seat and hurled his cup of whatever he was drinking, including the cup at PM. It came up short and someone below us got a very unwelcome shower! Just a pity as it was a tiny ground but a great atmosphere, cow bell central!

Not the first time for Birmingham so time for points deduction or empty stadium. fines won't work and they will just do lip service to the police.

Pilgrim blue and Algarve Fan What a sh##ty city springs to mind. Hostile club/ environment/ players/ fans Their fans even chanted “we’re a sh##ty Norwich City” Britains 2nd City. lol Hopefully they can play a few home matches in an empty stadium that’ll teach them! Monkey noises every time the PA announced anything to do with Ipswich
