![]() Saturday, 2nd Jun 2007 09:52 Birmingham City are reported to be ready to scupper Town's move for Blackburn Rovers striker Franny Jeffers. The Midlanders, managed by Alex Bruce's father Steve, are said to be long-time admirers of the 26-year-old former England frontman. Bruce senior is understood to have tried to sign Jeffers during his side's previous stint in the Premiership and he is claimed to be renewing his interest this time around. Town are waiting to hear back from Blackburn regarding their second bid lodged earlier in the week, thought to be £500,000. Former loanee Jeffers has said he would like to return to the Blues on a permanent basis, but the lure of Premiership football might be too strong should Birmingham firm up their interest. The newly-promoted club are in a position to pay a larger fee for the ex-Everton, Arsenal and Charlton man, however, their relationship with Blackburn is poor as a result of the wrangle over Robbie Savage's transfer two years ago. Jeffers would almost certainly be on a deal worth far more at St Andrew's, but might be less keen to move to a Premiership side if he felt his chances of playing first team football would be limited. The Liverpudlian is keen to play regular football after spending much of the last few seasons on the fringes at his various clubs. Meanwhile, former Blue Titus Bramble is on the verge of joining Wigan Athletic on a free transfer. Bramble is reported to have undergone a medical and is expected to sign a three-year deal, having been released by Newcastle at the end of the season.
