![]() Wednesday, 27th Jun 2007 15:19 Academy duo Jordan Rhodes and Tommy Smith have been named in a provisional England U17 squad ahead of the FIFA U17 World Cup. The tournament is being held in South Korea from the middle of August until mid-September. Academy manager Tony Humes told the club site that it's an honour for the Town youth set-up to have two players selected: "England have named a squad of 34 which will be trimmed down to 21 in August and the boys are included. "It's great news for the two of them and having our players recognised at international level is obviously good for Ipswich Town as well." Central defender Smith has previously won five U17 caps, while striker Rhodes has yet to play at this level. Smith, who turned down the chance to play for New Zealand, the country where he grew up, recently missed out on the European U17 Championship finals due to a calf injury.
