Jim: Four Goals Harsh
Jim: Four Goals Harsh

Boss Jim Magilton felt his side didn't deserve to concede four goals at West Brom and after a first half in which they showed the home side too much respect, were the better side after the break.

Magilton said: "In the first half we showed Albion too much respect. We had a chat at half-time and in the second half we were excellent. We controlled the ball and controlled possession.

"We had a number of very good chances and it was a harsh lesson for us in finishing.

"We should not have been beaten by four, but I can live with us playing in the manner we did in the second half.

"We really attacked the game and the scoreline was a little bit harsh, but we have to take it on the chin and move on.

"For whatever reason, we are a little bit stand-offish at the start of games away from home.

"We have got to be stronger to go and dominate the ball. Had we taken our chances it could have been different.

"But you don't always get what you deserve in football. Albion are a very good side and they will be there or thereabouts."

Former Town skipper Tony Mowbray agreed that the scoreline flattered his team: "It was a strange game. In the first half we dominated and it warranted us being more than 1-0 ahead.

"In the second half Ipswich had a real go. They gambled as teams have to when they are chasing the game. We managed to capitalise by scoring late on the break.

"But I was delighted that we dug in when our backs were to the wall for half an hour of that second half.

"There might have been spells last season when we would have caved in under those circumstances.

"This team showed they have something about them to dig in and run out winners.

"But it is a cruel game and the final scoreline is very harsh on Ipswich. They are a good side and they will do very well this season."
