Town boss Jim Magilton singled Jon Walters out for praise after the January signing from Chester put in another outstanding display in the 4-1 home victory over Coventry City.

Magilton said: "I feel very fortunate to have him. He is a good footballer with a real desire to get better. His work ethic is second to none. His all-round play is exemplary and he can only get better.

"I felt that a striker playing wide can have a natural instinct for getting in the right areas and that has been proved correct. He has scored with two fantastic headers for us this season.

"In many ways he reminds me of James Scowcroft, when he played here. Scowy preferred to come deep rather than be at the forefront of the attack.

"Scowy did a great job for this football club and if Jon does half as well I'll be delighted.

"He's been a great signing for us, is an outstanding individual and there is still a lot more to come from him."

Magilton was pleased with the overall performance and wants to see similar displays on the road: "We needed to get out of the blocks quickly and we capitalised on that to score some good goals. All credit to Coventry for coming out and having a go.

“We have applied ourselves well in training all week after I was critical of the display at West Bromwich.

"We need to have the same sort of performance from the players away from home. I wish we could bottle this sort of form for our away games.

Magilton's close friend Iain Dowie was unhappy with his defence: "One team could defend and the other couldn't. We gave a very poor defensive display.

"The first goal we conceded was a litany of errors. I put it down as a blip. I hope it's only a blip because I cannot put up with defending like that. We will all have to work hard on the training ground during the week. We allowed Walters and Lee to dominate us in the air.

"Jim is a top-class lad, a top class footballer and I'm sure he will be a top class manager."
