Yallop Leaves Galaxy
Yallop Leaves Galaxy

Former Blue Frank Yallop has resigned from his position as head coach of David Beckham's LA Galaxy to return to the San Jose Earthquakes.

The ex-Town defender told the Galaxy squad he was on his way after a charity game against some film stars on Sunday.

Yallop is understood to have been unhappy with the media circus surrounding his club since Beckham moved to the MLS. The Galaxy failed to make the end of season play-offs in either of Yallop's seasons in charge.

US international Landon Donovan wasn't surprised by Yallop's decision: "The unfortunate part is, he hasn't been allowed to show what a good coach he is this year.

"He's not been able to be himself. He's had people in his ear telling him what to do, and he's not been able to just get on with it. When he finally was left alone, we went on a seven-game unbeaten streak. I don't think anyone wants to work in those circumstances."

David Beckham said the players were disappointed by Yallop's departure: "We felt that he's the right man, that he's a good manager. But he's not walking away. He's looking after himself, he's looking after his family."

The ex-Canada coach enjoyed a very successful spell at San Jose between 2001 and 2004. During that time the Earthquakes won two MLS titles.
