Romeo's Return
Romeo's Return

Some actual real Portman Road news today with former Town star and pornography consumer Romeo Zondervan becoming the club's European Scout. Romeo has always had an eye for talent, although it was on his recommendation that we bought Gus Uhlenbeek.

And it was presumably Romeo's advice which has led to Town's interest in Patricio Graff, the 23-year-old Argentinian-with-an-Italian-passport full back already dubbed the new Mauricio Taricco.

The Feyenoord player is out of favour with his current club and is the target of a number of European outfits including Alaves in Spain. Given that his current contract runs out in 2002 it is likely he will cost us a fee. The interest in Graff increases speculation that Jamie Clapham may be asked to take on a midfield role this season in the place of Bobby Petta.

Talking of whom there is still no definitive word on turf-adhesive Dutchman, although Fulham still seems the popular vote. The words Norwich and City have been suggested, but even Petta wouldn't do that. Would he?

Richard Wright seems unlikely to sign the contract extension offered him by the club. It seems likely therefore that he will be put up for sale. Wright has two years of his current contract left, but the club want to avoid him departing for a reduced fee during his last contracted season or on a free at the end of it.

Today's Kieron Dyer story is that West Ham are interested now that Eyal Berkovic has gone to Celtic. West Ham have loads of cash from various sales and a move to a London club would suit Kieron perfectly, allowing him to stay in Ippo with his mum. Harry Redknapp has been a long-term fan of Kieron even saying he would have taken him to the World Cup last summer. Currently just a rumour, though.

Oh and the club plan to build a dome in which to house a training facility required in order to retain Academy status. As it is nearly the year 2000 this is being called a millennium dome.
