Town have revealed that striker Jon Walters missed last night's game with Cliftonville due to a virus. Walters, who has been linked with a move to Stoke, watched the game from the stands.

Boss Jim Magilton told the club site that the former Chester man has largely spent his time in Belfast in isolation: "He has been banished to his room since we became aware of it. Hopefully he will have a bit of game time on Thursday and Saturday once we have seen how he is."

Walters joined the rest of the squad for a hydrotherapy session at the University of Ulster on Tuesday morning, while the party visited the Giant's Causeway in the afternoon.

The frontman is expected to be in training on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's game with Donegal Celtic and Saturday's match at Glentoran.

Meanwhile, reported Town target Ian Harte has joined Wolves on trial. The Republic of Ireland left-back was released by Sunderland at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Darren Currie has decided against a return to Brighton and has instead signed for Chesterfield from Luton Town, much to the annoyance of Seagulls boss Micky Adams: "He used us as a tool simply to get a better deal for himself at Chesterfield, but while I am disappointed, I'm not that surprised."
