Muric Expected to Complete Serie A Loan Move
Tuesday, 12th Aug 2025 14:03

Aro Muric’s loan move to Serie A new boys Sassuolo is close to being confirmed, according to a report in Italy.

Sky Sports Italia is reporting that the keeper is expected in Italy today. Previously, it’s been reported that a loan with an option to buy for €10 million (£8.7 million) had been under discussion between the clubs.

Last season’s Serie B champions were initially mentioned in connection with a move for Muric early last month.

However, last week, the 26-year-old was strongly linked with a loan move to Turkish Süper Lig side Çaykur Rizespor with reports there claiming the deal was making strong progress.

Asked about Muric’s situation at last Wednesday’s press conference, manager Kieran McKenna said: “There’s interest from different leagues, different teams, different divisions. I don’t think there’s anything to confirm.

“We’ll look at each situation, each offer as they come in and we’ll see if anything comes of any of it.”

Early last week, Muric was dropped from the number one shirt to the number 49, something which illustrated that he isn’t in McKenna’s plans for the campaign ahead.

The Swiss-born keeper, who has also been linked with AS Monaco this summer, endured a tough first season at Portman Road having signed from Burnley for £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons in July last year.

Muric’s 2024/25 was ended prematurely by a shoulder injury which required surgery and his only involvement in pre-season was as a half-time sub in the 2-1 victory over Charlton at Colchester and he wasn’t in the squad at Birmingham on Friday.

Wow you found a photo of him nearly smiling Phil.
Must have taken loads of searching

If communication was his problem, learning English whilst away, he could come back a far better keeper

Good luck, Aro. It obviously wasn't to be, for you here.

Disappointment for me that it didn't work out here for Aro.
Time to move on, good luck fella I wish you every success, I don't think our fans either realised or encouraged your full potential here

Baz, I think fans would’ve warned to him more if he hadn’t made match costing mistakes most games?!

A regrettable signing and one hopefully the relevant people have reviewed this transfer, which was always going to be a mistake.

A number of us fans thought this was obvious as soon as he was signed.

Good luck with what comes next.

He made loads of errors that led to goals. Leif Davi’s also stood out to me as making loads of mistakes that led to goals. I just don’t get the discrepancy in reaction to the two. Leif is still adored and Muric is the villain.

It hasn’t worked out for him and hopefully he can get a permanent gig there for all parties to be happy!!!

Moron brigade out in force again.

Best of luck Aro! Just didn’t work out at Ipswich. When you’re a GK every mistake is ultra highlighted unlike forwards missing chances and defenders making mistakes. Aro never had a settled defence in front him and in fairness pulled off some cracking saves (Brighton away) he also made mistakes as any keeper does, which again were ultra highlighted. Some of the fans are an embarrassment.

The friendly match against Charlton there were boos aimed at Muric. Any idiot that calls themselves a fan of this football club and boos a GK in a friendly match should probably take up another sport.

Best of luck Aro, we have a fairly solid GK unit now with young slicks out getting some EFL experience

Bluearmy 81, no i totally get that, and I'm totally convinced he had to go, but where I come from If a player disappoints you try to get behind him, not slaughter him on SM. As Sam Morsy said, "stop making him a scapegoat". It was clearly effecting the players too....

I wish him all the best and hope he goes on to have a successful career. Just not in a town shirt. Too much damage is done and he probably feels just as nervous playing for Ipswich as us fans feel about him being in goal. Not a great mix. A fresh start will hopefully do him good. Good luck Aro

Good luck to him. I hope some of the comments will stop when the primary schools go back. He won us our first victory at Spurs. Made some great saves. Made some costly errors but not on purpose. No need to be nasty.

Did anyone ever interact with him? I know our back 4 didn't.

Good goalkeeping is all about confidence..the amount you have,..,and the amount others have in you...sadly in his case the latter simply got worse which resulted in the former following...on the other hand his list of former clubs should hav told the recruitment something

Great at the reflex, spontaneous saves but there was clearly a communication problem with the defence who had lost some faith. If he performs well it could morph into a permanent move and money recouped.

It was only when Palmer arrived that McKenna decided to change the tactics of playing the ball back to the keeper while the opposition's centre forward was in the penalty spot.
How many times did our previous keepers get caught out with these tactics?
Fair play to the man, I hope he has a successful career.
On a different note, I'm feeling confident of a return to the premier league despite our poor showing at Birmingham.

Not every transfer sparkles.
Not all are up with the lark
Not every one is a winner.
Not all hit the mark.
So let it be with Aro.

Our best keeper basically forced out by idiot supporters. What about some of the defence last season, Davis in particular who cost us far more points than Muric. Good luck to him & of course he'll be playing at a higher level than we are. Who are the "fans" going to assassinate next, well, they're not really fans are they?.

TownSupporter added 16:58 - Aug 12
Cadiar do you honestly believe that Muric is better than Palmer?

Muric had similar issues that Hladky used to have - could be great one second of a game and then be totally erratic the next minute. This can put the players on edge and cause the outfield players to play differently.

You don’t get dropped and a new goalkeeper brought by a club during the mid season January transfer window if you are doing what is expected and playing well.

We all want to see a player thrive, but you cannot take gambles with goalkeepers as the consequences are dire. This happened to be the case unfortunately. It’s not as if it was out of the blue either, we saw glimpses of it when Burnley were relegated that Muric was susceptible to costly errors.

We had to buy 2 keepers last season, Cadiar. That's laughable. And we had to because he just wasn't up to it, nothing to do with the fans. Burnley supporters were amazed at what we spent on him - £10m.
Anyway, let's wish Davis some luck with you 100% behind him.

A youngish keeper coming in, behind a new defense who needed time to gel, and Maurice gets all of the blame. The guy lost confidence as well as carrying an injury. We still won more points with him in goal than the other two keepers combined. Hoping he returns with much more confidence and show these boo boys how good he is.

Worst signing by far of the Ashton / McKenna regime .
Nearly as bad as Sereni and Paul Taylor , but they didnt cost that much !
