Town Confirm Thatcher Signing Thursday, 14th Aug 2008 15:14 Town have confirmed the signing of left-back Ben Thatcher on a two-year deal. The 32-year-old, a free agent, was in training with the Blues today having passed a medical earlier in the week. Thatcher, 5ft 10in tall, started his career with Millwall, before moving on to Wimbledon, Tottenham, Leicester, Manchester City and finally Charlton. The left-sided defender left the Addicks at the end of last season after they withdrew their contract offer. The Swindon-born defender, who is likely to be given the Town number three shirt, won four U21 caps with England but represented Wales at full level, making seven appearances. Thatcher has a suspended 15-game hanging over his head until the end of the month for the incident while he was a Manchester City player in which Portsmouth's Pedro Mendes was knocked unconscious. He is likely to make his debut for the Blues at Burnley on Saturday.
