Mariner is currently assistant to former Liverpool midfielder Steve Nicol at the New England Revolution. Mariner, who has confirmed he was interviewed for the head coach's job at the Chicago Fire a few months ago, says he could eventually leave the US if he doesn't get a senior role: "If [becoming an MLS head coach] doesn't happen, I'll probably stay with [Steve Nicol] and then move on and work in Asia in media and coach.†The appointment is expected to be made in late October or November.
