Newcastle Rebuff Town Loan Approach
Tuesday, 19th Aug 2025 19:15

Newcastle United have rebuffed a loan approach from the Blues for midfielder Lewis Miley.

Town were first linked with the 19-year-old at the end of last week with central midfield reinforcements one of the priorities before the window closes on September 1st.

As per Sky Sports, the Blues have made a formal enquiry but with the Magpies turning it down.

The North-East club reportedly plan to use Miley, who is also interesting a number of other clubs, during the season ahead.

However, if they made further midfield additions, it seems likely the England U17, U19, U20 and U21 international might be allowed to spent the campaign elsewhere.

Miley, who was born in Stanley, County Durham, joined his local club aged seven and has so far made 23 starts and 24 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

Town have brought in Azor Matusiwa on a permanent basis and re-signed Jens Cajuste on loan for a second season from Napoli but still need at least one more central midfield player.

Last month, they agreed a £15 million fee with Middlesbrough for Hayden Hackney but the England U21 international turned down the switch. The 23-year-old, who had hoped for a Premier League move this summer, remains at Boro.

With prem loans of fringe players they don’t tend to be allowed to leave until very late in the window if new signings have arrived and Newcastle are having a shocking transfer window to this point.

He came on in Newcastle’s first league game - so unlikely he’s avalaible for a loan.

Any chance we can target and purchase some players who will actually be ours…???

My thoughts precisely Portman Pie. Loans have their place, we already have some, and a big stack of cash in the kitty, even if, as I suspect, some is earmarked for elsewhere. No problems with LM as a player, seen him a few times, very promising. It would however be very nice to have a few players we can call our own to start with. MA is becoming the loan arranger, just need to get someone in called Tonto now! ( if you're not a geriatric like me, you might need to search that! )

Tomitfc. Hows it been a pretty shocking window? Yes, we've lost 7 players, but we've signed 6. And had a couple of rejections. It happens. Nothing the club can do about that is there. In case you hadnt noticed, pl clubs have been strugglingvto sign players all summer. And as is the case with most windows most of the business is done in the last couple of weeks, when pl clubs know where they stand, and are willing to release players

Those moaning about loans really need to think about it. The ones we currently have on loan all have an option to buy, should we get promoted. A cheaper way to get quality footballers without the longer term commitment should we fail to be promoted. Makes perfect sense to me. Why overcommit, especially as we've just got relegated and dealing with income shrinkage.

It may not be s3xy as dropping 20 mil on a player but it's the right thing to do, all championship clubs tend to do it

What's happened to this ' close to agreeing fee ' Norwegian young starlet ........why don't we forget the rekindling of Hackney aand offer Brownhill £65k PW , would still be hugely less in terms of a transfer fee ......saying that he'd need a month as no pre season ....we have less than 2 weeks and we need ( imo ) ....a left back , number 9 ( ship out the woeful Al-Hamadi ) , 1-2 wingers and 1-2 Centre Mid ....maybe that's overkill but it's a long , hard season ( then again do we really want the premier league ).

OoOoPs, AnOtHeR MaRk AsHtOn MaStErClAsS. To think people think he can’t put a foot wrong, he’s barely put a foot right this year.

Tena could do good business with some posters on here. Jeez, just wait, good things have happened, and more to come.

I have seen in a few places we have rebuffed our offer for Hackney, plus there is lots of reports about the young Norwegian lad (Egeli) and also a young Danish lad (Boving) so just have a bit of faith and patience and the signings will come in when they get done

What a real bunch we have on here tonight, good grief. Wailing central.

Seems like this is one that might come back again in a week or so...

Would like us to look at Josh Brownhill, an attacking midfielder from Burnley or Josh Dasilva who is more defensive midfield or can cover left back. Both free agents at the moment… Either way, we need to strengthen midfield.

Loan players helped take the town to the Premier league.

I’ll bite for you boysof1981. You’ve got the benefit of hindsight. What would you have done differently if you were Mark Ashton?

Tick Tock, Tick Tock….. are we going to get another CM, Winger and Striker before the window is shut? It’s looking increasingly unlikely atm. Hopefully there will be some good news soon instead of rumours or rejections.

Lets be honest - what chance was there in that coming off ?
And it’s a sad inditement for the Club that we have no 19 year olds ourself to bring in - after all it’s only the Championship Grind again - with Owners being pretty keen to off load the Club since Brexit.
The Boat is in Stormy Waters - like to admit, or deny as you wish, as you no doubt will but that won’t change it.
All is far from well - Unfortunately.
The Dream faded dramatically with Relegation !! - we are now scraping the Barrel once again.

I think we won't get anyone else in b4 the window close and if we do it will probably be another panic bye like ali

this Norwegian lad that's gone quite since Sunday and we are trying to loan players that their club currently wants whats the point in that go and get cook or billing from Bournemouth but would bring real quality to the team but I fear we won't get anyone

Don't know why we are still pursuing the signing of Hackney when he's already said he doesn't fancy the move.

Why loan a 19 year old? I can’t believe people are asking this… how old was Omari? If we loan a 19 year old we don’t have to count them in the squad and can ease them in as and when they get what is required. If we wanted to buy Miley Newcastle would want £30m and we would take all the risk of him not progressing. Please think about what your actual point is before being certain about it.

This transfer window so far has been very frustrating.even the owners have not been seen or heard for a long time very strange window.

Blues1 - we’re 2 games into the season and we have 1 striker, 3 centre midfielders (1 of which won’t be fit for a while, Matusiwa a good ball winning midfielder but he doesn’t suit our style at all). Akpom injured already. We have 1 fit left back. Kipre & young meh.
We were effectively relegated in February and here we are with 2 weeks left of the window and it’s looking desperate, delusional if you think otherwise.

Loan loan loan … will we be buying players who belong to us? Shocking just the one fee purchase so far … the squad is very weak and as KM rightly said, we are not where wwe want to be or should be.
