Clarke Nets Twice for Darlington

On-loan striker Billy Clarke netted twice as his Darlington side defeated Accrington Stanley 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Irishman has now scored seven goals in his nine games for the Quakers.

Clarke lobbed Stanley keeper Kenny Arthur on 32 then did much the same in the 53rd minute.

Elsewhere, Liam Trotter made his debut for his loan club Grimsby, playing the first 63 minutes of a 1-1 draw at Morecambe, and Jordan Rhodes made his second appearance for Rochdale as they defeated Chesterfield 2-1.

Rochdale boss Keith Hill says he expects to keep the 18-year-old for longer than his initial month: "Jordan is intelligent beyond his years and he led the line really well [in last week's game against Rotherham] and showed great awareness.

"He is a natural born goalscorer and will score goals in the time he is here with us. Unfortunately, the better he does for us, the more attention he will create.

"If things go according to plan we will be able to keep him beyond a month, but he knows his future is with Ipswich and it will be a bright future. He needs to develop and gain experience of first-team football and we are providing that opportunity."

Dan Harding was in the Southend side which won 4-3 at Crewe and Matt Richards played the full 90 minutes as Brighton lost 1-0 to a Walsall side which had been reduced to nine men in the 33rd minute.

Chris Casement, who is still to make an appearance for his loan side Hamilton Academical, was again an unused sub as the SPL side lost 1-0 at home to Hibernian.

Ed Upson was once more left out of the Stevenage Borough 16, having played for their reserves earlier in the week, and looks unlikely to have his spell extended by Town unless Boro start to play him in first team matches.
