![]() Thursday, 17th May 2001 01:41 TWTD has learned that Town are about to sign their first ever Spanish player, 22-year-old Celta Vigo striker Pablo Couñago. Couñago scored two goals for the Spanish U21s when they beat England’s U21s 4-0 back in February, a game that George Burley attended. The 5’10" player is out of contract at the end of June and if we are correct would join Town on a Bosman. He is said to prefer to play in the centre of the attack, although he has also been known to operate on the left-hand side. He is said to be an opportunist who is always looking to create openings. Reports in the Spanish press have suggested he is unhappy at his present club as he feels he is not playing enough first team football. Previously he was with Recreativo and Numancia. The player was at Portman Road on Tuesday and there are suggestions that he may even have already had a medical.
