Civelli Eyeing Return
Civelli Eyeing Return
Monday, 7th Sep 2009 16:26

Injured midfielder Luciano Civelli has set himself a target of a return to playing football before Christmas. The Argentinian has been out of action since damaging knee ligaments in the home game with Burnley back in March.

The 22-year-old told the club site: "I am running every day and feel happy with the progress I am making.

“I am seeing the specialist soon and hopefully he will say that my knee is fine to start doing exercises with the ball and increase my running to a quicker pace.

"I feel I am improving all the time. In two months I hope to be training with my team-mates. That is the target for me. After that, I want to be back playing football again before Christmas."

Civelli says he immediately knew his problem was serious: "I knew it was a bad injury when I went down. I have never had a feeling in my knee like that before.

"The first month or so was hard, but I have always remained positive and now I can look forward to playing again as quickly as possible."

Civelli made eight appearances for the Blues last season after signing from Banfield in his home country for a fee of around £1.1 million.

Good! I reckon he could become a very important player for us for years to come!

That's good news. With the squad as it is now, he is definately our solution at left-back. He started his career in that position, and was only converted to left mid shortly before his move to Ipswich. His defensive qualities are there for all to see, and with the likes of Walters, Martin, Edwards and even Quinn and Norris competing for the wide roles, Civelli offers up a much better left-back option than Delaney, Thatcher, Smith and Balkestein - no disrespect to the latter two, who are, and will be, superb centre-backs.

Good luck to the lad in his recovery as in his brief run out for us he has looked a very useful player but please dont rush things we dont want a relapse

I actually do wonder if he'll play LB.. he did look really, really good on the wing though. It'll be an interesting decision.

And regardless, I can't wait till he's back - must have been awful for him to be injured so quickly.

Yeah i agree with Danknott, against QPR he was poor. However, it was one of his first matches, he wasn't up to speed or fitness. He improved, big time.

See the Reading game Dan? Thought not, wasn't on TV, was it.

He only played 8 games. Its a bit early to tell if he is going to be a star or not. He looked OK last season.

Was really excited when he joined, and was so gutted for the lad getting injured so early on, after coming from the otherside of the world.
When I first saw him at the wolves game last season, at first he does nt really look like a great football, in respect to the way he stands and looks on the ball. But when ever we had a great chance to score he seemed to be the provider, so would be great to see him back pushing for a start on the left.

danknott you can not say he is awful after 8 games, after a move away from home and a huge difference between the leagues, and it seems you are basing this opinion on one game!?

8 games is too few to make a judgement one way or the other, what is obvious though is he is 100% committed, and you can't ask for more than that at this stage.

Time will tell if he's a good signing, but in the meantime, let's hope he recovers fully and makes an impact when he deos returns.

¡Vamos Luca!
