Edwards Wins 76th Cap
Edwards Wins 76th Cap
Thursday, 10th Sep 2009 08:53

New signing Carlos Edwards won his 76th Trinidad and Tobago cap as his side lost 1-0 to the US in Port of Spain last night. Trinidad and Tobago remain bottom of the North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying group and have no chance of reaching South Africa next summer.

According to reports, Edwards, playing in midfield rather than at full-back where he was employed against Honduras at the weekend, caused the US defenders more than a few problems with his pace down either flank.

The 30-year-old is due to join up with the Town squad when they travel to Middlesbrough on Friday and looks unlikely to start at the Riverside as he is yet to train with his new team-mates.

Looks a really exciting prospect. Some of his runs (one particular one on 26 mins, beating four players - when did we last see an Ipswich player do that?!) were spectacular. Real pace and although quite lithe, didn't get knocked off the ball easily. Very good at receiving the ball with his back to defenders, turning quickly and inviting the foul too. We should be getting lots of free-kicks just outside the box. Finally, good a playing right or left wing. What a signing if he stays fit!

I agree with Norse, he is an exciting player. He and Kenwyne Jones were by far the best players on the pitch for T&T. Edwards was creating a lot of trouble for Jonathan Spector all night.

Is Kenwyne Jones in Steve Bruces plans? Any chance we could have him too - pretty please!?
