Bolton Defender Linked
Bolton Defender Linked

Town are being linked with a loan move for Bolton central defender Danny Shittu. The 29-year-old is yet to play for the Premier League side this season.

Nigerian international Shittu started his career at Charlton during which time he went on loan at Blackpool and QPR. In 2002 the 6ft 3in tall centre-half joined the Superhoops permanently and became a regular in their defence.

In 2006, the Lagos-born defender moved on to then-Premier League Watford for £1.6 million. Two years later he joined his current club for a fee of £2 million plus add-ons, signing a contract until the summer of 2011.

Shittu has failed to make an impact at the Reebok Stadium, making only 11 starts and one sub appearance.

Town are understood to be in the market for a dominating central defender and Shittu very much fits into that mould. Last week Roy Keane revealed that he is in talks with two clubs regarding two signings on loan with a view to permanent deals in January. Currently Football League clubs can sign players on loan for up to a maximum of 93 days.

Meanwhile, new signing Carlos Edwards says the chance to work with manager Roy Keane is “a delight”.

The Trinidad and Tobago winger made his Town debut in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.

Edwards said: “Of course having the chance to work with the manager again after our days at Sunderland played a part in my move to Ipswich. It is a delight to be back working for him.

“Everyone has a dark side and Roy Keane is no exception, but once all the players do what he wants everybody will be smiling. The manager knows what he wants, but so far it has eluded him this season.”

The former Sunderland, Wrexham and Luton man joined up with the squad on Friday having been away on international duty but says he is quickly getting to know his new team-mates: “I have already made new friends in the squad, and there doesn't seem to be any negativity in the group.

“They are all bubbly, and now we must work together collectively and sharpen up in some areas - making it harder for opponents to score at one end and scoring more ourselves at the other.

“At the end of the day the finger will be pointed at the gaffer, but we are all in this together.”

Elsewhere, Celtic are reported to be ready to move for Derry City youngster Darren McCauley, who was linked with Town, Blackburn and Coventry last week. The 17-year-old is likely to leave his club, who play in the League of Ireland, at the end of the season in November.

NW10 Tractor, do you have inside info that we'll win tomorrow night? lol
Having said that I do feel that our season will get going once we get that first win and the visit of Forest may well get us going. I know it's early days yet and I do realistically think we can still make the play offs, but our poor start to the season will be the difference between play offs and automatic promotion. We now nearly have a squad good enough, Central defender, LB and a striker, but not Daryl Murphy, he has no more goals in him than any of our other forwards.

Thank you bedsitfc!

Seriously, across the board we must be positive. Time after time we hear McAuley is rubbish, Pim only has a long ball. Statistics show that out of all the clubs in the Championship, the Mighty Ipswich have the most shots on target. We'll come up against a team that cannot defent for their life and we'll end up getting punishing them 5-0. Yes its frustrating (expecially for me as I travel up from near Wembley) but lets be positive with the players we do have and together... LETS BACK THE BLUES TOMORROW NIGHT!

I hope to see you all there in fine voice! COYB!

The reason he ain't playing for Bolon is that he is too slow! We need a defender who has pace not another snail, we have too of them already in Delaney and McCauley!

Soud like a good solid move, hope it comes off. I think the team are lacking confidence, our first wi could see a dramatic push up the table. Tow to win tomorrow night and then the fans will have something at last to shout about COYB.

It would be a logical move to take us away from players comfortable on the ball and onto - less cultured players. So much for the Club's traditions! GET IT IN THE MIXER!!!

WOULD BE a brilliant signing if it happens. Could do with a LB and striker asell. Maybe camara and Ball , both ex PL who may be good enough still for CCC

Portman road is a fortress??? Are you forreal 1-3 against a poor palace side who loast to scunthorpe conceding 4 goals says alot of things to me, but fortress is nopt one of them.

I admire your optimism but jsut cant see this season developing into anyuthin mroe than a relegation fight.

I think we have to travel to st james park on saturday and if that is the case 2moros game sis the most important in my time~! Simple we beat nottingham forest we go to newcastel with confidence and may ( MAY ) snatch a draw, however we lose or draw at 'fortress' portman rd 2mo we are in for a spanking in geordie land. 8 games, 2/3 points = me missing Jim¬!

callumgarryskeemer - have you any idea of our fixtures list? We are at home to Newcastle on 26th September a fixture that has been etched on ITFC fans brains since the fixtures were announced. It will be a very emotionally charged game as we are also unvailing the newly named North Stand after our much loved former manager who sadly lost his battle against cancer on 31st July 2009!
