Keane: It Should Have Been Three Points
Keane: It Should Have Been Three Points
Tuesday, 29th Sep 2009 23:45

Boss Roy Keane was again left bemoaning individual defensive errors after his side came within a couple of injury time minutes of recording their first league win of the season.

Keane said: “It should have been three points. We were close but not close enough. At 3-1 up we should have seen the game out but we conceded some bad goals. We gave the ball away cheaply and gave it away.

“It was disappointing but we'll look at the positives. The team expressed themselves and we played well, showing a spirit and tenacity.

“It's hard to take because in our predicament it's wins you need, not draws. But the signals are that we're making progress. Perhaps we just need a bit of luck and the rub of the green.

“Our supporters were excellent again and hopefully they can see a spirit, desire and attitude among the players that says we're all in it together.

"Does it feel like a defeat? Probably not because we've scored three goals away from home but there was a spell in the second half where we were wanting one or two players to see the game through but nobody did tonight. It's very disappointing."

Sheffield United assistant manager Sam Ellis was delighted to grab the draw: "We won't get a better point all season. To not play well and be second best all night shows the character of the team and that's what got us the point here."

bluwien you seem to be on my wavelength. much encouragement after last night..only thing i would say is leadbitter is a million times better than norris...if trotter can build his confidence playing alongside leadbitter ide wouldn't mind seeing them two in the middle all season!

As i mentioned last night, Morgan is the type of player/captain we desperately need. However the elbow on Priskin (off the ball), was inexcuseable.

Isn't it time we got a new keeper? Come back Supple all is forgiven.

Not denying he is a leader, but he does seem to leave a bit too much of an impression, as you might see from Iain Humes skull.

Don't think we need a new keeper, just make sure Wrighty dosn't go walkie's as much as Triggs! lol

We just don't play well as a team. Richard Wright's been great but then rubbish last night, Trotter had a good game but when will he have another?, Martin has been appalling and we in theory lost 2-0 when he came on, McAuley good game first of the season, next one?? etc etc.

ok, 10 games, 5 points out of possible 30, winless, last on the league table....
should we still support Mr RK?....

rebuilding a team should not even degenerate to this state.... after every defeat and draw game, we always say we'll score the elusive win the next game.... how many games are we gonna wait?.....

Do anyone realised that we're reaching the quarter-season mark?.... it's unbelieveable to be staring at the wrong end of the league table if you ask me.... i'll loan the manager out to a conference team if you ask me further....

Listening to reports from those who were there and also from the Sheffield camp - there can be little doubt we were excellent last night BUT yet again we were let down by individual errors. This is NOT Roy's fault. How can he control Richard Wrights flapping? That said, he is in a position where he can bring in new defenders and possibly a new keeper. Wright has sadly made too many mistakes this season.

We need a win, but equally this performance sounds encouraging - Roy should be credited with turning it around from Saturday!
