Keane Sets Sights on Another Target
Keane Sets Sights on Another Target
Monday, 19th Oct 2009 10:26

Boss Roy Keane has set his sights on another loan target after the player he chasing at the end of last week decided to remain with his Premier League club. Keane is looking for two additions to his squad, but is currently only making progress on one front.

Keane said: “As I said last week, there was a long way to go and the player we wanted to get permission to speak to didn’t want to come, he wanted to stay and fight for his place at a Premiership club.

“I can understand that 100% and that’s the way it is. We’ll keep pushing hard to try and strengthen the squad. We’re looking at someone else, but there’s a long way to go with that deal as well.

"Some of these players have spent a long time trying to get into the Premiership or have been playing in the Premiership for a long time and are very reluctant to drop into the Championship, and that’s something I understand 100%.

“We’ll continue to make progress, I’ve been in contact with the managers and they've said they’d let me know how things are going. We have to respect the managers and the players. We can’t drag players down here if they don’t want to come.”

Keane admits making headway on the loan front has proved difficult: “The progress we were hoping to make was in one of the positions and we’ve hit a few brick walls in terms of the other position.

“If I told you the position, it’s clearly a tough position to improve and there’s not that many players out there, believe it or not. Premiership clubs don’t want to do anything and teams in the Championship don’t want to do deals with other Championship clubs.

“We’ve made no progress on one of the positions, but we’re hoping on the other that we might get feedback next week, but it’s a big if.”

Keane says he knows nothing of the reported Derby County interest in Jon Stead but wouldn’t be shocked if an offer came in for the out-of-favour striker: “There’s nothing that I’m aware of, but when you leave out a good player like Steady it wouldn't surprise me if there were enquiries for him.

“I think there might have been one or two calls to the chief executive. If clubs want to make an offer, they’ll make an offer.

“There are no impending loans out, but that could change in the next hour, that’s the business we’re in. I might see you tomorrow and we’ll have had a few enquiries today. That’s the way it goes.”

Town have no new injury concerns ahead of Tuesday's home game against Watford with Carlos Edwards coming back into Keane's thinking after being rested at the weekend.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Aldeburgh Kevin Webster says he is unaware of complaints being made regarding the noise being made by Roy Keane’s dogs, as was reported over the weekend: “I have not heard of any problems whatsoever.

”The town council has not received any complaints so the only thing I can think is a complaint may have been made to Suffolk Coastal. I think it has been blown out of proportion, we are not aware of any problems.”

Elsewhere, former Town loanee Giovani Dos Santos has been linked with a January move from Spurs to Portsmouth.

callumgarryskeemer, i see what you are trying to say, just.
the problem as far as you are concerned is not less and less pro-Keaners on here daily.
Its the fact that the owner, who makes the decisions, is at the moment a pro-Keaner.......how long is the million dollar question.

And i still say that there is a definite lack of respect for our history on here, as a fair and fair-minded club

And also UEFA81, I suspect there is a lot of people on here can say Town can win on Tuesday....they are called supporters

No Matter which "type" of supporter you are, you are a loyal supporter. Looking back over the comments, we all have some something to say about our club because we actually give a damn about our club. We are passionate about the club we love and we all need to get behind the team on tuesday night. Whether you are a "Marmite" Roy Keane fan (You love him or hate him) we all need to get behind the team.

2-0 Town. I can't stop saying it because I have bet money on it.

in regards to the "we'll beat watford" comments. My best mate is a Watford Season ticket holder and predicted bottom of the table at the start of the season for them, I said we'd (ITFC) be gunning for top 6... funny old game isn't it (said Jimmy Greaves). half the battle is having team/player spirit, which there appears to be a major lack of and I don't think Keane is a man to get people feeling good about themselves as he is so hard on everyone and himself... never good enough, never happy, chop and change, people probably don't know if they're coming or going with him. Watford however, seem settled and have a buzz about them... if they bring it to PR and we carry on like we are, draw at most. RK is not a manager, I seriously doubt he'll ever be a "great manager", think it's sad we allow anoyone of his calibre to "learn thier trade" at a well respects club. He was a bully on the pitch and I suspect from what we hear and read, ever the hard nosed bugger off the pitch - which is not what you want, it doesn't work.

Had a dream Ipswich would draw 1-1 on Saturday unfortunately didn't put any money on it.Will let you know if I have a dream that RK has walked,or less likely that we are going to roar up table into automatic promotion position.

Fed up with words. Time for action. Just let us know when a player has been signed. The longer we go without a decent centre half / striker - the less chance of a win. We have been promised two outfield signings since the close of the transfer window - around 7 weeks ago.

I never said Town can't win tomorrow night. I said I didn't expect them to.

Uefa81, dont want to fight over this, honest!
Would you stick up for Town against a supporter from another club,if they said we were crap, and they couldnt see us winning a game.....i know i would,i never have stood for anyone giving me grief over my team, and i grew up in a family of Arsenal and West Ham fans, can you imagine the s*it i took growing up!!!
So when i see a fellow supporter saying the same, i see red!!!!!

We all agree we want Town to win and do well, and as Dirtydingus says getting our head around this situation is the hardest thing, but keeping positive and expecting us to win is something we must do...and its something RK must also instill into our players.......
i bet none of the top teams go out onto the field thinking...i dont expect to win this!!!!

i say every game we will win this time, so far i have not been overly accurate!!
but soon , the laws of average, say i will get it right.

3-1 to Town tomorrow COYB

Oh yes, I defend Ipswich all the time - I would do, they are my club and have been ever since I became interested in football. There is no greater club than Ipswich, despite our current position, and I am with them and support them through thick and thin - even if we dropped down to the Conference.

You are right, we are bound to win one sooner or later but whenever that win comes it will be a surprise (a very pleasant one) to me.

COYB!

Its a joke, not only has C**T Keane got the players disheartened, but he has the supporters at each others throats, not good!

HE has to be sacked soon, I think that anything less than 3points tomorrow and he will be leaving, whether walking or sacked I dont know but one of them will happen! Never have I hated somone I have never met so much!

It has happened time and time again where people come on here giving it the 2-0 town, we will win, or this is the start of our season, yet does it ever? NO. I for one do not see us even getting a draw against Watford, as of late they have been ok, with a couple of manchester utd lads on loan! As someone said on here how much money has he spent on players who are sitting on the bench week in week out? I always complain about losing and being bottom of the league and always forget the sh*t signings he has made! It is a joke, why did he sign Healy? HE was in talk with a league 1 club, why would we want him? Delaney (that name strikes anger in any town fan who reads it), MArtin (bench) Begovic (we have one of the best gk in the league! £1.7m for a striker who has scored 1 goal. SHyTE

I really hope for a win tomorrow but I can almost guarantee it will not happen!

p.s If Marcus Evans can attract Keane he can get someone with just as bigger profile, with more experience.
