Striker Connor Wickham won his fifth England U17 cap but failed to score as his side thrashed Kazakhstan 6-2 in their opening UEFA European U17 Championship qualifying group game in Azerbaijan this morning.

The Town frontman started the game but was replaced in the 61st minute having created one of the three goals scored by the time he was taken off.

England take on the hosts on Wednesday and Serbia on Saturday.

It is pleasing to see that some of the Ipswich Youngsters are considered good enough to represent their countries....

It must have been quite strange for him to be part of a team that actually won.

if you look at the squad list nearly all the players are from really top clubs, with Ipswich standing out as a smaller club on the list. its nice that we produce youngsters who are in amongst the best.
