Balkestein Joins Brentford
Balkestein Joins Brentford

Boss Roy Keane has revealed that central defender Pim Balkestein has joined Brentford on a month's loan.

Keane said: “I've got Alex and Damien and with Gareth McAuley and Tommy Smith fit again, we gave Pim the opportunity to go and get some games.

“It'll do him the world of good but we look forward to him coming back, obviously sharper for the benefits of playing league football.”

Bees boss Andy Scott was delighted to make the signing: "We are very fortunate to have been able to take Pim on loan.

"He has played against us for Ipswich in each of the past two seasons pre season friendlies and he likes the way we play. I believe he will be a very good signing and help improve the squad still further."

A raw talent, looks like he has the potential to be the next hermanator but has made too many errors when given chances so far. He's still young though and could yet be a good player for us, as others have said this is a good move for Pim to get him some games at a decent level. He's certainly our 5th choice centre half at the moment, anybody suggesting he should be getting in ahead of McA or Smith needs their head tested.

It's probably the right decision as he does need games but I personally can't think of too many players (or any players, come to think of it) who have gone out on loan to lesser clubs and come back revitalised and to the standard required to play First Team football. Perhaps some of you could kindly remind me of a few such loanees?
I don't know enough about defending (though I'm learning) to pass a real judgement but I quite like the lad although I have seen him get in a muddle on occasion when strikers and runners force him on to his right foot.
No better or worse than existing for me but Keano's the Manager and he makes the decisions - end of story.
Hope Pim comes back a better player as the Club have invested time, money and manpower on him.........

Good luck to the lad, clearly not good enough at this level - too many mistakes. Hope he does well.
