Loanees This Christmas
Loanees This Christmas
Thursday, 17th Dec 2009 12:28

Fringe members of Roy Keane’s squad are being lined up for loans ahead of the transfer window opening in January. Chief executive Simon Clegg says he hopes to secure their moves before Christmas so he, Keane and club owner Marcus Evans can concentrate on negotiating permanent deals once the window is open.

Clegg says the trio have already talked about their January plans: “We’ve had discussions about what may or may not happen, but it’s still early days.

"What I would like to do is put the loan deals to bed over the next week before Christmas so that anyone who is going out on loan can prepare themselves for however long they’re going to be away.

“Then we can leave the January window to concentrate on transfers as opposed to loans.”

Clegg says the likes of Pim Balkestein, currently with Brentford, and Jack Ainsley, at Rushden, could have their spells extended, while other players are also likely to make short-term moves: “Those that are out on loan at the moment and those that might be going out on loan.

“There are a number of people who are interested in some of our players. Whether Roy is prepared to let them go out and whether I can reach a financial deal which is worth our while are the two big ifs.”

Earlier in the week, Colin Healy was linked with a possible move to Hartlepool, who tried to sign him from Cork City in the summer, while youngsters such as Ed Upson, Reggie Lambe and Ronan Murray could all also be targeted by lower league clubs.

Jaime Peters put pen to paper on a new three-year deal on Tuesday and Clegg says talks with other members of the first team squad will be taking place soon: “It would be irresponsible not to. They need to know where they stand vis-à-vis new contracts with this club or, where appropriate, we should make it clear that they should be moving on.”

American trialist Devann Yao was recently offered a contract by the Blues and Clegg says the club are continuing to discuss the compensation due to some of the clubs the 19-year-old midfielder was with as youth player. New Yorker Yao spent three years with French side Metz, six months each with Italian clubs Livorno and Pisa as well as a short spell with St Mirren in Scotland.

Clegg says if agreements can be reached, Yao will join: “There are a few complications which we are working through, it’s not as straightforward as it appeared initially. If we can get to a satisfactory outcome we’ll be in a position to sign him.”

However, Clegg says it‘s looking less likely that Senegalese trialist Ibrahima Faye will be joining Town with his lack of recent international caps making securing a work permit difficult: “That one is still live but it’s looking increasingly unlikely.”

The Town chief executive says the club are yet to look at whether to extend Jack Colback and Stern John’s loan spells with the club.

I think Kitson is loaned out to boro till end of season ,not sure though ?
From what i have heard and read about Beckford i dont think he is Roys type of player or person !
As palace are in so much trouble financially why not try Ambrose again he is playing well and scoring goals just off front man and can play on left also has pace which we are lacking, and has Ipswich connections ?

Agree with Ambrose, but what happens if he comes and goes through the motions, is he the type of player who would appreciate a kick up the ass?
Although he would come to us in good health which he didn't last year.
I really want to see Priskin give his all, he shows touches of class but he is just soooooo lazy he reminds me of M BENT, could finish everything but just never ran or did anything useful lol.
Emr thinking thinking, your right about Kitson i think - dammit, lol what about this Daryl Murphy thing again - I bet you it will be on off on off again in Jan - ill be honest as much as i love football i really cant think what he's like lol.

Easy to talk about in and outs but we have been disappointed far too often already this season with possible signings that do not materialise. I agree with an earlier post that we need a left back with a left foot although Wright is the best we have in that position at the moment. We need a midfield player with a left peg to play on the left flank and of course a striker (but who doesn't). I don't want Lisbie back in fact I hope he never plays for our club again. His attitude on and off the field relative to ITFC has been appalling and if there has been a lazier player in an ITFC shirt I have not seen him. I believe Roy Keane knows what he wants but unfortunately it takes time - I am thinking now however that he will get there.

Good shout Chopra, mind you at Cardiff he only had the one shot at goal. Maybe that was down to our back four who had a fantastic second half. Talking of Cardiff, the whole team at the end of match lookeed as if they had just won the cup,i do think that game was the turning point, second half they wanted the game more, keep it up lads. 30 goal forward we then wont be far away at the end of season. KEANO

I don't think we really need any more bodies in; we have a large squad already. Now Garvan's done his time and come back in we seem more rounded in midfield and we have loads of options. Defence is looking solid and also has good depth to it, I think we will tie up a deal with ALB, and I would hope we could use palace's money woes to get a longer loan for Stern John as he's made a good impact and is exactly the bit of big-boy grit we were missing up front.

What is the score with Rosenior's loan deal, if he's in the last year of his contract at Reading it would seem a strange move to loan him out all season.. surely that means they've already accepted they wont be getting a return on him? Great player, hope he stays on for the long term.

My thoughts on what i read up on the Rosenoir loan was it was a loan agreement until jan with permission to sign, fingers crossed, and I read on here that someone posted their thoughts on Liam saying he won;t sign etc - why not all that you read from Liam himself is how settled he is, how he enjoys playing for town and loves playing under Roy.

Me personally if we can get to mid table by new year - I would hold off buying anyone however if we need that boost then maybe we do need to get a couple in.
I agree with Keane when he says we need different players for different games, so maybe some back up players will be seeked? another left back for example with a left foot for attacking play then D Wright for defensive for example?

I would let stern go back. He may be unfit etc and could get better BUt Ive seen nothing from him to suggest hes any better than pablo holding the ball up.
He was totally outjumped and outmuscled against peterboro by both their CB`s and it was mainly the "small " one who marked him.

He has added nothing to the side. I dont see him as big enough and tough enough to be a target man . Lee or Kuqi would have been better.

Scanning through these posts, it is only players currently playing in the UK. Do we have any scouting structure for Europe? There must be useful players over there who would love to try to make a name in England, if only to get themselves noticed by the big clubs.

Chopra? Would he really move whilst there is a chance that he will be in the Premiership, earning premiership wages next season?

Beckford? He is almost certain to be playing Championship football next year, why would he want to move in January?

Both players may want to think about it if their promotion hopes go tits up, but not until.

I would like to see us sign Mclean thought he was a great player when he came to PR.

but most of all if we are going to get Play offs will be depending on if Keane signs a Goal Scorer !! any of them n i would be HAPPY !!

dont think u would get chopra, no way! and in the summer leeds said they were goin to keep Beckford and he wasnt aloud to leave but i think his contract runs out this summer so........
ci think scotland would be possible no goals tis season, martinez may relise he cant cut in PL but wud help get u there so i think he would be good. Also some1 like Billy Sharpe who has scored bout 10 this season, on loan at Doncaster, but not sure wether he could be bought from sheffiled utd but if so wud be worth a punt, sheffield would be grateful for the money,
any1 agree/disagree..............................

I agree with you xrayspecs apart from R. Wright and Upson... Upson is good, always a good performer in the reserves and tbh I don't know what that kid has to do to get a look in at the first team!
