Town Back in Bottom Three
Town Back in Bottom Three
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2010 22:42

Town dropped back into the Championship’s bottom three after Reading’s 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace on Wednesday evening. The Blues now sit in 22nd place behind Palace who also have 33 points but whose goal difference is nine better.

A draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday would be enough to take the Blues above Palace depending on their result, while a victory could see Town leap ahead of the Owls in 20th, QPR in 19th, Reading in 18th and Scunthorpe in 17th if their games go the Blues' way. Town travel to Scunthorpe next Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Jon Stead made his debut for new loan club Coventry as a 56th minute sub as the Sky Blues lost 4-1 at Newcastle.

What is all the fuss about?
When RK was appointed Manager his remit was to take ITFC out of the Championship,
Is that not what he is doing??

You're so right Singing the blues. Silly old us. Come on Keano, keep it up. Thanks for everything & we're backing you all the way. You know, this sounds great when I read it & rattle a tambourine at the same time. Golly. Life's sweet. Ho hum, must run, opening the fete at 12.30.

Hmmm... when you have a plan, it's usual to track progress against that plan in order to see if you are on target .

Not sure that I would say we are on target for the 2 year plan at the moment!

But then, Sheepy had a plan, didn't he - was it 2/3/4 or 5 years?

Woefull on tues night first time i have really thought sh*t we really may go down! I disagreed with some of Roy's choices on the night sub wise but have to believe he can turn us round. Maybe try Walters alongside murphy? Coyb sort it out for gods sake

SouperJim: I think I've seen us play well 3 times, at most this season. So yes I have seen some good football but not very much at all. And in the other games a few have been average but a lot has been utterly woeful.

There is a real risk with change at this point but several teams around us have made a change recently and it's working for them. Reading, Peterboro, Sheff Wed, Preston all doing better after a change.

My worry is that we need a lot more in the last 16 games than we've had from the previous 30. Keane has just started feckin about with the line-up all over again (which he had stopped doing to a large extent when we had our improved period) which suggests he just doesn't know what to do.

Must admit, I was happy to see the season out with him but I've changed my mind.

I suspect though, as others have said, he has two games to decide his fate. I hope that's the case at least.

Let's not start pressing the panic buttons just yet. We are where we are because of the dreadful start we had to the season and the fact that the likes of Reading & Sheff Wed are starting to put a decent run together. After 15 games we were rock bottom on 11 points having only just won our first game of the season. The second block of 15 games has provided 22 points. Still not exactly promotion form but if we can keep that sort of ratio going over the last 1/3rd of the season we'll be OK. We're only in the bottom 3 on goal difference, 3 points away from 17th and 6 points from 12th with a game or two in hand over most teams above us. The squad of players we currently have is capable of beating most sides in this division. They & we just need to keep the faith and see this dreadful season out without too many more wobbles, like we saw on Tuesday, and then we can start to look towards next season with a bit more optimism.

Yes there's still a third of the season to go but what makes anyone think that Keane & co are going to start winning matches all of a sudden?..that run in of ours looks dangerously difficult & if we can't pick up points against the likes of Peterboro what chance do we have against the top sides.

We've won 6 since august, the highest we've been this season is 17th!!..our top scorer(s) have 6..we should be pushing for a top 6 spot no question.

What this club needs - and needs LONG term - is a very safe pair of hands..a Burley or a Curbishley..it's blindingly obvious that Keane is a loose cannon and shouldn't be anywhere near our club - i'd swap him for Magilton anyday of the week.

It's simply not good enough Roy - you are a clown of a manager, grumpy and aggressive - it's no wonder players aren't responding on the pitch, especially in the 2nd halfs..don't anyone give me the whole "sacking him would be disastrous" argument either - disastrous for Norwich fans maybe - it's his decisions & inability to decide on an 11 that have got us into this mess..Keane leaving would be a huge release of pressure for this club.

And as for those morons slagging off Burley's achievements - do not even go there..the guy is a TRUE town legend.

I am really hurting after Tues nights fiasco and the position that we are currently in. I can understand some of the crictism towards Keane but think it is unfair to direct all of it at him. The players must take the most part as there has been some serious underachievers this season and they must now pull their fingers out, roll up their sleeves become together as one and fight to get us out of this mess we find ourselves in. Perhaps the players who have been publicly criticised, told they can leave ,been dropped for months from the squad ,are in and out of the team like yo-yos in different positions ,seen their top scorer leave the club ...maybe just maybe they have lost faith in their manager because they certainly werent trying for him after the substitutions on Tuesday night .If that is the case we really are in trouble because they know they wont be sacked ,its starting to feel a little bit like just before Jim got sacked and our appalling display at home v the saints

The thing is Torty, if we get less that 22 points from the next 15 games, we will likely be relegated. Everything in your post is actually a reason to change the manager. No one wanted to do it but he does not deliver & has not improved sufficiently. We are more inconsistent than ever, which is why Jim got binned.

Totally agree with Lightningboy with his comments about the surly megalomaniac we have as a manager ! Get rid now of him NOW to save a proud club from further upheaval , despair and trouble.

Funny isn't it that all the Keane supporters are very quiet at the moment, yet, a win on Saturday will see them all come out of their hiding places. When will some fans wake up and see it doesn't boil down to one game but the whole season?

We have been shocking for most of the season, too many changes to the team and squad the players don't know when they are coming or going, some have played a blinder only for Keane to drop them to accommodate loan players and his ex-Sunderland mob. If he liked so many players at Sunderland he should have stayed there and done us all a favour.

I don't blame the players, the blame starts at the top! Poor leadership equals poor moral!

Hurry up and walk keane!

Probably fair to say that we have had teams in the past that as individual players were very average but as a unit have played very well together.
Currently we have on paper a good number of players that as individuals can be very good but as a team are poor.
The Manager is in charge of the team and formation and getting them hyped up before the game and at half time. Yes the players need to repond but the buck stops with the Manager as he is paid to manage the team.
The players need to perform and clearly they are under performing, but the constant changing of the team can't help players get used to who is around them.
Take Mac & Delaney, poor at the start of this season played out of place but since they have been moved together in central defence they have performed well.
Question for ME is does he think that RK can keep Town up or if a change is needed then when is the best time to do it? IMO I don't think many people felt that Magilton's firing was particulary well done, they could have waited until the end of the season. RK was clearly lined up in the background prior to the decision to get rid of him and perhaps a stunt for the next years season ticket sales. I have to admit that before this season started I was more excited than the previous two seasons, what a let down it turned out to be.
A change of Manager now would give enough time to make a difference and would give a lift to some of the players, fans and general feeling about PR which is gloomy at present. I don't agree with constantly changing Managers but its hard to find many good points.
The fact is Burley is available at present and would be an improvement over RK. IF ME/CLEGG keeps a tightish reign on the purse strings, Burley would be great.

As previously mentioned a change of manager may have no more joy than RK, but it seems to work for alot of clubs, why not ITFC?

I take it we are not going to make the play-offs then........

Am studying stats at the moment so know about the importance of looking out for trends but even discounting the first half of the season its depressing to see that our performance over the last 15 games may not be enough to save us - too many draws.

Would not give up hope yet, our win in Cardiff demonstates no match is a foregone conclusion.

So how will everybody feel if/when we finish say 20th mighty relieved or pissed off given the deterioration over last season?

Roy Keane is like a poison. He came in and has almost single handed turned our once great club into a sorry bunch of gutless loosers.
He has spent 8.2 million on rubbish, (Apart from Leadbitter)
He let go one of the most natural born strikers we have ever had (Rhodes)
He has fell out with media many times.
He and the players let us fans down badly on 'Sir Bobby' day against Newcastle. (Nearly 80 mins for our first shot on goal)
He changes his team every single game.
He drops players for weeks
He loans out our top scorer knowing that we are in a relegation battle.
He makes the most bizzare subs even when we are winning.

I hate myself now for slaggin off Magilton.
Magilton never once took us into the bottom three and that was when he no money.

Nunny numpty, if i kneel down & wish & wish & wish that Ipswich win on a Saturday, does it make any difference? If only. If you mindlessly want to keep a bloke who has won 6 in 30 games, never had a fixed side & wasted £8m, surely you are the one who wants us to go down. We've been trying to tell you for 4 months that we might go down, but no, Keanos got a master plan. Keano's getting us in the playoffs - he's probably off to Afgansitan to tidy that up & cure world povertyy at the same time, but he don't seem able to name 11 to win a match.
