Evans's Donations to Lib Dems Total £530,000 Thursday, 8th Apr 2010 10:45
Town owner and chairman Marcus Evans has donated £530,000 to the Liberal Democrats over the last four years, according to a report this morning. Evans is a long-time supporter of the Lib Dems and has set up a call centre in the Portman Road gym for their use during the election campaign.
A spokesperson for Evans quoted in the piece appears to dismiss widespread reports which have claimed that the Town owner is a tax exile: “The bottom line is that he has never been a non-dom and he is registered by HMRC as a resident in the UK.”
The report also reveals that Companies House documentation shows that the Marcus Evans Group paid only £7,757 in UK tax during 2007, having made £1.8 million in profits on a turnover of £55 million.

What I don't understand is how he can afford to own a football club when his main business only has a turnover of £55 million and profit of £1.8 million. The sums don't seem to add up when you consider how much he has spent on players etc over the past year or two?

"The sums don't seem to add up" You know this is football right? No sums ever 'add up' in this game - hence the number of teams being deducted points in recent years.

Those figures do not bode well for our financial 'transfer chest' for next season!

Wish I'd only paid £7K in tax last year and, before you ask, I didn't earn anything like 1.8 million! With his "rich get richer" approach, thought ME would support the tories

Rather ME than these Dubai club ruiners, wouldn't it be a shame if Norwich find a wealthy owner who turns out to have NO money :) Oh wait... hello Delia!! There's only one Connor Wickham, one Connor Wickham!!!!!

Further to a couple of comments, I think it's widely known that most of ME's companies are registered in Bermuda, hence the low turnover of his UK businesses.

Ah thanks Phil missed that. Anyone know what the net worth of the Bermuda businesses are? Just interested to know exactly how much money he does have to chuck at us.

Good man. Country needs a credible third option and the bias is stacked against LDs stupidly. Change the electoral system and we'll have far more interesting politics. That's my contribution to the electoral campaign :-)

No wonder we struggle to win anything! Still better than giving it to the Tory Fat Cats

Yep, very pleased he doesn't donate to the Tories. I'm sure that's the natural territory of football club owners/chairmen.

Pointless. The Lib Dems could promise the earth - knowing they will never have to deliver.

Don't worry people, the reaon why the company has such a low profit is to avoid tax. Why have money sitting there not working? As soon as he gets any money in he pays it too himself, simple shrewd accounting.
