Stead Out for the Season
Stead Out for the Season
Thursday, 8th Apr 2010 16:42

On-loan striker Jon Stead is set to undergo cartilage surgery and has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The former England U21 international is on loan at Coventry City for the remainder of 2009/10.

Stead, who scored twice in nine starts and one sub appearance for the Sky Blues, recently said that he expects to leave Town over the summer.

The 26-year-old, who moved to Portman Road from Sheffield United for £600,000 in the summer of 2008, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2011.

Meanwhile, Reading's appeal against Matt Mills's red card during last week's game against Town has failed. The defender will serve a four-match ban having been sent off once before earlier in the season.

Elsewhere, former Blue George O'Callaghan has joined Waterford United, who currently lead the League of Ireland First Division (Irish second tier).

O'Callaghan was a decent player. Could have done something.
That he didnt is down to him, I suspect.

Maybe , but for free ! Like they did with lisbie.

Had all the benefits of having him back and a 650k cheque in the bank aswell.

Nice deal --FOR THEM

Keep him-he'll get 15 a season with good service, would be good back-up for Murphy. For all those doubting him, Murphy has now had a lot more starts than Stead did but has scored the same amount. Ok, Murphy is a better player for the team with link-up play but Stead is equally as good in front of goal.

We still need another striker, although thinking about it if we sign Murphy (and possibly Healy) and also if Priskin comes good, we may not.

Murphy=15 goals
Stead=12goals
Prikin=15goals (what he got for Watford)
Wickham=7goals with more games
Healy=10goals

get rid of Pablo too inconsistant and doesn't score enough, nor set enough up to make him worth while playing. That looks quite a good strikeforce, if we can affor the wages.

Sorry to hear this, particularly for Jon who seems like a nice chap. BUT we now though that RK was RIGHT to bring in Murphy and ship out Stead. His goal scoring ratio has been very poor at Coventry - much the same as it was at PR.

Get well soon though and hopefully a buyer will be found in the summer.

i dont know what you lot are moaning about stead is one of the better forwards we have on are books, top gs last year and not done to bad this year, hope stead stays for now

Blueknight85 added 23:24 - Apr 8
he is indeed one of the better forwards on the books at the moment...but why does that mean he should stay.....atleast on current evidence as Priskin and Wickham could both prove better Stead maybe the better striker we actually own but with him we might not get very far...why should we not strive for better players like Murphy others have to leave to bring better players in and you cant keep him on the wages he is on just to sit on the bench that is the job of a less paid player to keep 3 or 4 highly paid strikers you are either in the premier league or you fancy losing all your money and 10 points

Priskin will never become better then Stead. Priskin is properly the worst signing i have seen in the last few years for Ipswich

you obviously haven't seen him play recently or before his handfull of games at ipswich

Jas 0999 as always your comments are without any factual basis
Stead starts 13 for Town 6 goals,Murphy starts for Town 15 6 goals ,
Stead also never had the luxury of playing 15 games in a row to get confidence ,and why is the comparison Stead and Murphy ,not Stead and Healy or Stead and Walters who have both been playing up front and not scoring ? Walters has not played well for a while and not been dropped once .
Why cant we play Stead and Murphy ?
And as for Priskin he is a joke and should be shipped out with Martin in the summer if anyone will take them which is unlikely

Bad forwards---remember Paz!!!!! never forget the header he missed when we lost to Wrexham in the FA Cup!!!!!Parkin, never use to score at PR best game he ever had Leeds away we won 2-0 he scored both and had one disallowed he only had three shots at goal. The good old days!!!!!
