Wright Thanks Fans
Wright Thanks Fans
Friday, 7th May 2010 10:44

Released defender David Wright has thanked fans for supporting him during his three and a half years at the club. The former Wigan and Crewe man has been told his contract will not be renewed when it’s up at the end of June.

Wright told the club site: "I've had three fantastic years here and some great memories in that time. I've enjoyed a good relationship with the fans and been lucky enough to have had their support and I want to thank them for that.

"I came here to help Ipswich get in the Premier League though, so there is that sense of disappointment that I have not achieved that.

"I've got to think about the future now though. I'd like to find a club as soon as possible so that I can get my family settled before the new season gets under way."

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been somewhat unconvincingly linked with Connor Wickham. The Magpies are understood to be relatively short of cash in the summer and are unlikely to spend what would be a significant proportion of their funds on a 17-year-old, while the Blues frontman would almost certainly not to want to move to St James' Park even if Town were willing to sell.

mjw_1983 - Spot on. Totally understandable that players don't want to risk injury in a nothing game when they need to find themselves a new club in the summer. I don't understand why some people seem to take things happening at the club so personally...

I personally would have liked him to be offered a contract. Never let us down when he played, whatever the position. If you want to bring another fullback in that's fine but I would have at least offered him a deal on reduced terms and told him he had a fight on his hands to get in the team. Then if he signs , great he is up for the fight. If he does not sign we are where we are now !!

Thanks for the time spent at ITFC, David Wright. It was obviously not your decision to go, so wherever you end up, I for one will give you a warm welcome back to PR. I'm sure many more will do the same. My impression of you is one of a good, solid, unassuming professional with a great attitude - a genuinely nice bloke.

No point in re-stating earlier comments on the subject.

Good luck David in your future career.

We should have never of let him go. Even if he isn't in Keanes plans for a starting 11, what a great squad player to have and for younger players to learn from

I find this a strange one, now we have no natural right back at the club. Peters has done well there and maybe Roy sees him as either first choice right back next season or back up to a new RB, or Keane's going to bring in two new players for this position. Think he should have been kept on if only offered a one year contract. Hopefully Keane has players in mind, pretty much already signed having released Wright and not keeping Rosenior.

You can say what you like about David Wright's ability and his profile on and off the pitch. However, since he's been at the club he has been by far our most consistent player. I can count on one hand the number of bad games he's had for town and there are v.few of the 1st team you can now say that about. He also has versatility as a defender being able to go on the right or left. We will regret this one and he will go to Norwich due to family and club ties. I do feel for him as he did all Keane asked and still got shown the door but football's like that and it seems he realises this. Good luck David!
