Town Amongst Clubs Chasing Peterborough's Boyd
Town Amongst Clubs Chasing Peterborough's Boyd

Town, Derby County and Middlesbrough are all reported to be targeting Peterborough United left midfielder George Boyd. The 24-year-old has just completed a loan spell at Nottingham Forest but is not expected to move to the City Ground on a permanent basis.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry confirmed that there are clubs chasing the ex-Stevenage Borough man but says no one has yet made an acceptable offer: “The chairman, manager and myself are all agreed that George will not be going anywhere if we don’t receive a bid that matches our valuation of him.

“There are clubs interested in signing him, but so far none have offered us enough to make us want to sell. And, believe me, if that situation does not change George will play for us next season.

“We are all determined to have a real go at getting straight back into the Championship and we will have a better chance with him than without him.”

The Scotland B international has another year left on his Peterborough contract and is valued at £2 million by Posh, having been one of the stars of their side as they climbed from League Two to the Championship before this season’s relegation. He has said he will not sign new terms at London Road.

Boyd, 6ft 1in tall, joined Peterborough from Stevenage in January 2007 for £265,000, Town having been one of a number of Football League clubs reported to have been keeping an eye on him during his time at Broadhall Way. Chatham-born Boyd had moved to Boro, for whom he also had a spell playing as a striker, in 2001 after leaving Charlton’s youth set-up.

Forest are understood to have paid £500,000 to take Boyd, who qualifies to play for Scotland via his grandfather, to the City Ground on loan in March, but he made only five starts and one sub appearance for the Tricky Trees. Boyd has made 157 starts and six sub appearances for the Posh, scoring 43 goals.

Middlesbrough are reported to have confirmed their interest in the ex-England National Game international (non-league England side) last month, while Blues boss Roy Keane has said he is looking to strengthen his left-sided options over the summer.

He's a good player and I'd be happy to see him here, but with only a year left on his contract Barry Fry is just trying to talk up his fee. I can't see anybody paying £2M for him and I'm also shocked if Forest really did pay £500k to have him on loan for two months of football!

Why are we wasting our time here Darren Ambrose is by far one of best wide midfielders at this level and can get him at good price plus he loves Ipswich we need width pace and end product some excitment players who actually take a chance whip in a cross have a shot we are just so predictable and boring. Instead of Keane going for has been premier players who have no motivation and on huge wages go for league one and two up and coming players who actually have something to prove and are hungry I just dont get signing these crap over paid players who come for a holiday

Apparently fell out of favour at Forest due to his 'off-field activities' and attitude. From what I've seen he's a decent player with some skills, although is (too) frequently injured. Certainly not worth 2 million, Mr. Fry is having a laugh. Better to stick with Luca and Martin at that price IMO.

not a bad player at all, he has what we don't, shooting potential from the wings. Sign him up

I can remember the good old days when Barry Fry sold one of his players for a bottle of champagne and a box of crisps.

We must sign this guy. He has that creative spark and skill that we so lacked this season. He would be a great addition to our midfield which is, at the moment, all effort but no end-product.

GB sounds pretty useful (I haven't seen him play) but £2m is a lot of money. There were too many expensive flops last year for RK to make the same mistakes. For the last few years Barry Fry has been placing daft valuations on their players (£5m for Aaron McLean?) and I think this is over the odds for a player that is part of a relegated team and has 1 year left on his contract. I would be reluctant to pay over £800k when we can offer him a pre-contract in a few months.

Ipswich 24 .... Read your comment back to yourself in your head slowly...lol

Darren ambrose is a premier league has been who was on huge wages....
He certainly is not a league 1 or 2 player... uv completely contradicted yourself.

if they are a similar price i would chose ambrose over Boyd but i preffer ambrose on the right i dont really consider him a lefty so if its a lefty i wanted id chose Boyd but with The possibility of Civellibeing back for next season if he stays fit and is any good we wont need a lefty and ambrose can play on the right so i might chose Ambrose :D but then i think i want a tall player instead and Chose Boyd so i dont really know :(

I'm not saying we shouldnt pay it for him because i realise the current climate of football this is just a comment on modern football as a whole. £2 million for a scotland B, League 1 player just goes to show how ridiculous spending and money in football has gotten.

He is hardly a league one player is he not only did he finish the season with a championship team but you can hardly label him as a league one player untill they start the season

sign him up .. 12 goals from winger.. sort of player we need , it suprises me at how some people comment on every player linked him saying too much for a player like that .. this is the amount decent championship players cost now a days , we anit gunna get him for 1 mill or less , ronaldo went for 80 million 1 league above , so all values are changing. 2 million for boyd is good id take him.

Get him and hooper !

i suppose a forest reject makes a change from all the sunderland rejects pretty sad days when all we can look at is other clubs on our level or worse rejects whatever happened to ipswich footballers i suppose we sold them off cheap as soon as they started to show any talent it sounds like a recipe for long term failure to me.on a brighter note i had a dream that keane went to celtic lastnight say its true please please

A left sided, creative Midfield player who scores goals and is still fairly young, if the price is right he is exactly the type of player we need if we are going to be pushing for promotion next season.

I dont know enough about him to be able to comment much. There appear to be some good reviews about him on here, although the price is perhaps a tad high. And the lack of pace is maybe a problem, as our whole squad appears to lack much pace really.

As for the comments about Ambrose, I'd love to see him back, but dont think we will as hes not a Keane type of player. He's given regular games and a fair amount of freedom at Palace which I cant see Keane giving him here, so would probably become another of a long list of underperformers. Skillful and talented footballer, but doesnt fit into the bracket of "man" and "character" (or dull workhorse, if you want).

Hold on though £2m for a Scotland B player... there are dead Scotsmen who could get into that team!
