Charlton Considering Wright Move
Charlton Considering Wright Move
Monday, 17th May 2010 21:54

Charlton could move for released Town keeper Richard Wright if current glovesman Darren Randolph opts against remaining at the Valley. Wright was told his second spell with the Blues was at an end prior to the final game of the season against Sheffield United.

The Addicks have offered out-of-contract Randolph a new deal but the Irishman has yet to indicate whether he will accept the terms.

Wright, 32, has also been reported to be interesting Town's local rivals Norwich City.

He he. We shouldn't joke Suffolk_n_good!

Richard Wright would never go to Norwich surely? Still not convinced that Brian Murphy is any better than RW. If RK wants a new keeper he could do worse than to have a look at Kasper Schmeichel.

So, we need another keeper but Wright was let go for monetary reasons (some fans have assumed) and now he's linked with a League 1 team. Hmmm, doesn't really add up.

I still don't know why RK wants another keeper. You just do not need 3 first-team keepers. How can you keep them all happy? You only have one reserve team after all.

Agree with Mungo............RW is still by far the best keeper at the club. BM not good enough, not big enough and never commands his area. He will be a weak link next season, that is if we can compare him to any of our strong links!

and he still goes on about the defence.........

They could have done with him in the shoot-out last night.

Still not convinced with BM's kicking; I get nervous every time he takes a run up. Whatever you think about RW's command of his defenders, his distribution and shot-stopping have always been first class.

It would indeed be ironic to see Richard Wright play for Norwich after we had their cast-off a few years ago!

Fatby - RW Distribution was bloody awful, shot stopping good everything else was awful, 15 times in that game against newcastle i remember a chance for him to throw the ball out to a town player - that was just the first half. but instead he waited and waited and waited before kicking over to walters.

If you want to talk about kicking anyone who says they didn't poop themselves everytime Wrighty had to swing his right leg at the ball is lying.

Murphy had more clean sheets than any other keeper and his run in the side coincided with our best form of the season. Give Murphy a chance.

Kicking can be improved - disribution, command of the area cant and for me Murphy has this nailed.

Your assuming Brian Murphey is considered number 1?
Keane has been linked with Fullop which suggests other wise

If Richard Wright runs onto the field at Portman Road as part of a Norwich City side, would he be applauded, or booed?

Spot on naa, RK lets Town's no1 go supposedly for monetary reasons and then is linked with a reserve premiership keeper (yes superblueflude I did say linked). No surprise as not convinced by BM yet. His area command was poor and kicking was average, shot stopping was okay. In the spell that yallop is talking about actually consided with when we had a sorted defence and he had a limited number of saves to make. The games towards the end of the season it almost seemed like each shot on target would result in a goal. IMO he has promise but mistake to let RW go. Hope he doesn't go to Norwich as I feel this would give them a boost in the keeper front and I don't want them having any boosts at all.

I actually do think Richards injuries may have something to do with it, look at Keanes quote on another post about the 5 keeper scenario and not wanting that again this season - does he mean that Wright is injury prone??

chripswich added 09:53 - May 18
wrighty's not injury prone, played every game of the season 2008/2009...player of the year and all that...
got injured at cardiff but recovered well and quickly and apparantly put an awful lot of effort into that recovery - that effort was even commented on by keano..
But as a keeper keano just doesnt rate him...end of

D. Wright wasn't injury prone either however we found out that he was hiding an injury for most of the season.

Especially when you look at comments made post being let go, D.Wright says he made a mistake in letting me go - R.Wright - nothing.

wrighty's post decision comments were pretty clear..."I proved magilton wrong and this is no different"...he wasnt happy, not one bit (i do have a slight inside track on that one)
clearly Keano didnt rate his all round abilities and maybe other stuff too (the mental bit) ..us mere mortals will never know...

osbourne/Naa

R.wright was on high money to be "first choice" while he may be as good or better than B.Murphey it does not mean he is good enough to be first choice... for one reason or another

As such how is it not reasonable to let him go and get someone on those wages who is good enough and keep the still young but not to young, hungry and improving B.Murphey as his competition.

And don't delude yourselves with dreams of accepting pay cut's! lol firstly he is capable of playing first team championship football somewhere else who will pay him more or pay him the same whilst actually allowing him to play,

Secondly as i allready said i doubt B.Murphey (although doing well) is seen as No.1 i think Keane wants a more experienced finished article as No1...
he got B.murphey in to be wrights no.2 along time before january when he was aloud to start playing and during this season has decided Wright is not good enough which to be honest he is not the best in all areas and we need someone who is.

Unfortunately, as we have learnt previously, Richard will go where the money is and in truth who can blame him??

Roy was 100% correct to release him. Poor start to the season, return of injury problems and no doubt a high earner. Great decision, but I wish him well.
