Town and QPR Linked With Bristol City Defender
Town and QPR Linked With Bristol City Defender
Monday, 31st May 2010 09:44

Town are amongst a number of clubs interested in Bristol City right-back Bradley Orr, according to a report in the west country this morning. QPR are claimed to be leading the chase for the 27-year-old, although a weekend report that a £500,000 bid had been accepted by the Robins was premature.

Liverpool-born Orr started his career at Newcastle, during which time he was linked with a loan move to Portman Road, joining Burnley for a short-term spell in early 2004, then Bristol City on a permanent basis that summer.

Steve Coppell’s club have offered Orr, who has a year left on his current deal, a new contract and a spokesman says they would want more than a deal totalling £500,000 for the full-back, who was jailed for 28 days in 2006 after an incident outside a nightclub: "We are aware of the figures that are being bandied around in the press and, I can assure you, we would not accept a total package worth £500,000. Anyone wanting to sign Bradley would have to do better than that.

"There are some clubs that don't seem to mind how much they spend, but we are in a position where we don't have to sell if we don't want to."

A central midfielder earlier in his career, 6ft tall Orr has made 229 starts and 26 sub appearances in his six years at Ashton Gate, scoring 13 goals.

A right-back is very much on Roy Keane’s summer wish-list with Liam Rosenior not offered a contract at the end of his loan spell from Reading and David Wright released.

Anyone is better than David Wright!

I wouldnt mind him at 500k , but anything higher then i wouldnt get him.

I still believe there are better right backs out there for a cheaper price!

Oh, and I forgot to say: It seems like QPR are really getting sorted out early. So are Sheffield Utd. They will both probably be play-off contenders this time round, to add to all the others. I hope we can soon get sorted out too or we may get left behind.

David Wright is a solid, reliable defender at this level, and we could certainly do a lot worse. Gone now though, so no point dwelling on the past...

Regarding Orr, I don't really know enough about him to pass judgement. Did he not get sent off against us a few years ago? If RK does go for this guy and he proves to be effective, I doubt anyone will complain...

I'm not sure he is better than David Wright. £500K for a direct replacement probably, which is £500K we could put towards a striker!!

I agree he was a solid player, but he didnt give enough forward and got caught out too often.

Yes orr did get sent off, when we won 6-0. And With Danny Haynes pace!

But what other right backs are there?

Just one problem RK is on his hols at the moment in Orlando and does not come home until friday so we will be waiting a while for anyone to sign.

Fantastic!! player number 11 we have been "linked with"!!! - When will we start signing somone ?! like Steve_ITFC_Sweden has said , if not careful we will get left behind, whilst others are signing quality we'll be left with last minute panic buys.

Suffolk_n_Good, RK did this last year and looks like repeating it this year! Lesson learnt - not. Lets hope he has learnt some thing from last season, as another start like that and I will be surprised if M.E. is as patient this time.

I am not sure about Orr but we will need both left and right defenders for the next season. I believe Keano was having something in mind releasing D Wright.
And totally agree with Steve_ITFC_Sweden - QPR and Sheff Utd will be in the mix this season coming but luckily we have three very average clubs relegated from the Premier league (assuming Portsmouth and Hull will have to sell to fix their books). I am surprised that SkyBet is giving a very good shot to Reading for getting promoted next season?! Am I missing something here?

"What other right backs are there?" Quite a few I would imagine, all of varying ability and with their relative strengths and weaknesses! Glen Johnson is a £17million player and he looked decidedly shakey yesterday against the might of Japan! If RK thinks this guy is the man for the job and will add something to the team, then so be it. Like you originally said however, I would imagine that there are probably other options available for less.

jailed for a month? Sounds like him and keane would get on, and maybe keane might make him captain and tell all the players to look up to him as a role model.

See no point in spending 500k on a player who seems to be no better than someone we got rid of in david wright. I honestly reckon him and keane had a fall out.

Deals take an age these days as they have to go through the other clubs chairman / club secretary and finally bleedin' agents and players personal terms.

I'm sure Keane put these wheels in motion beforehand by outlining his targets to EVANS and also to SIMON CLEGG to negotiate transfer fees etc,
so the fact he's on holiday doesn't affect anything as he wont be dealing with it till it reaches the final stages.
Its not like picking things up to buy at Tesco's is it, you're dealing with people and they are out to make the choice that suits them financially and otherwise.

I'd rather we saved that money (and the wage bill) to sort out our striking options...

I think Peters and the international right-back we already have (Edwards - a chance to start earning what is probably a big wage) should cover the position next season!

I have watched him many times mate!
Im not saying he shouldnt of been realised, i just feel if we are chasing for promotion we do not need a solid player, we need that player with a bit of pace, something a bit different. However i wouldnt mind roseiner, but Keane didnt seem to like him.

Mungo

I agree to be honest. i think last season we didnt have a right back that we knew was going to be our right back week in week out. I think its good to have players contesting for the spot, but RK kept changing it! Which i feel distrubted the team a little bit. I just hope RK finds the right player!
In Keano we trust! (:

I am a little surprised we haven't signed anyone yet. Other clubs appear to be doing business.

Orr would be okay - but I wouldn't spend any more than £500K.

ChambersM added 18:18 - May 31
you know why that is jas, because keane cant attract players and no one wants to play for him!

i think a new defender is what ipswich need, so we can score more goals and let in less, cuz i don't want a repet of this season when we kept on letting in late goals, like against westbrom, watford ect. So yer i think we should sign this defender, and don't sell gareth marcurley he's r best defender :)
