Garvan Fee Agreed
Garvan Fee Agreed
Tuesday, 27th Jul 2010 09:29

Town and Crystal Palace have agreed a £225,000 fee for midfielder Owen Garvan. Former Blues boss George Burley is a long-time admirer of the former Irish U21 international skipper, who was amongst the eight players made available by Town earlier in the summer.

The 22-year-old has already been at Selhurst Park for talks regarding personal terms and a two-year deal has been agreed, but the Blues academy product is still considering whether to leave the club he joined as a 16-year-old.

Meanwhile, Alex Bruce could still move to Sheffield United later this week, despite the deal stalling yesterday. Reports in South Yorkshire claimed the deal was off, but the switch is still likely to go through, probably later in the week.

The clubs are yet to agree the terms on which the central defender will move to Bramall Lane, but it is likely that an agreement will be reached. Bruce is understood to have already held talks regarding his contract with the Blades.

A decent wedge for a decent enough player - all the best to him.

Bruce - apparently the big problem here is that there are so many offers to drive him from Portman Rd to Bramhall Lane, the clubs are sifting through the applications. Good luck to him - but the time he played right back against WBA away one Christmas period... it was one of the worst performances I have ever seen. He didn't have a clue where to go, who to mark, where to stand, unbelieveable for a pro...

We need folks out to get folks in. Hopefully this activity will happen sooner rather than later and the churn of players can start.

The Ball is now rolling,
keane isnt that stupid to know players going out need to be replaced by players coming in.
The thing is... its going to take a little bit longer than expected.

Got a feeling that this is going to comeback and bite us. Believe that Burley will get the best out of him and we wish we had held on to him. Disappointing to see him leave as still feel under the right coaching he could do well. Has been disappointing the last couple of seasons and can see why Keane would consider releasing him but feel he could still come good with regular play rather than bench warming and reserves. If you choose to go, good luck Owen.

... and he's still only 22 - he seems to have been around for ages.

Farewell some semblance of footballing style.
Hello workmanlike characters.
Oh dear.

Burley must me laughing, Owen has served us well and offered much potential - sadly this never quite boiled over. How someone Captains his U21 international side and can't make a struggling championship team is beyond me but hey. Good luck lad.

Less than £400k is a Joke! We've paid a lot more for worse!!

What a joke of a fee, Burley has got a bargain there. Hopefully Garvan will turn them down and stay. Bruce on the other hand, woo hoo, that's more like it Keane.

So who is the better judge of a player Beano or George Burley?

garvan is a good player we cannot let him go

makes you wonder though how much would we have had to pay for him if it was the other way round....

osborne1nil added 10:14 - Jul 27
corshamblue - your right we have paid alot more than this for rubbish. He is only 22 and unlike Bruce feel that he still likes being at PR but the attraction of playing under GB must be difficult not to consider.
If Keane is not happy with OG then why not loan him to them rather than sell if he comes good then great we could have him back or sell for higher.

Garven needs to be playing in a side that gets the ball down and plays it and any Burley side will do that.We do not play that game at present and thats not having a go at RK he likes a more direct hard working approach to the game. The fee seems on the low side for a 22 year old.
Palace may just have got the bargin of the season to date!

Garvan plays football and I afraid that wont be tolerated at Ipswich.
We need characters .... CHARACTERS I say.

Burley's judgement over Keane's all day!!

BlueKnight85: you're a disgrace. The next time you randomly defend Keane at least I'll know to ignore you. I can't believe you're so happy to be losing a player who's given us 5 years of decent (if unspectacular) service.

The team Keane is forming has no class, no style and little footballing ability. But hey, if that's what you want well done to you

He's going way too cheap and to answer a question above, yes Burley is a much, much better judge of player than Keane. As proven by the number of duds they've signed. I suspect Keane has already signed more duds as a manager than Burley has, despite having about 15 years less managerial experience.

I have a feeling Garvan might just turn them down and fight for his place. Just a hunch.

What a day, first the bad news on Connor and now this. Another mistake for sure. Expect Garvan to score against us soon...

osborne1nil added 10:33 - Jul 27
Hope you're right Gus. If he hangs on long enough then Beano might be out and another coach/manager could revive his form and play the ball on the ground which is more suited to his game.

Another promising kid goes for next to nothing...good luck Owen,Burley must be wondering what the hell's happening at PR.

Wake me up when Keane's gone.

SiBo added 10:50 - Jul 27
Promising kid? He's 22 years old for god's sake and in footballing terms, that is no longer a kid. Yes, he was a promising kid when he came into the side at 17 and had a season and a half of promising football. He looked like he could make the step up and be a decent player... but he then had that bout of illness and the homesickness, he went downhill from there and has never recovered... don't look at him with rose coloured specs on, he hasn't been that good for us undere the last 2 managers... best to cut our losses, get rid of and make space for someone else to come in who will improve the team.

I'd still claim that Garvan is the best midfielder we have to spread the game out and got the best eye for the channels. If Garvan is going we need a new central midfielder as I only rate Norris and Leadbitter higher than Garvan this would mean that Quinn and Healy are the next in line to be subbed on???
0

naa added 10:59 - Jul 27
SiBo: don't necessarily disagree with that (though I think you're a bit harsh) but where is his replacement? RK has made is fairly obvious what he wants from his midfielders as he already has Norris and Leadbitter and tried to get Derry.

He doesn't want class and skill in the middle, that is obvious. So my issue with Garvan going is that we won't be seeing someone else come in and be better. We'll see more hoofing and running around.

Though I would obviously love to be proved wrong.
