Cardiff boss Dave Jones refused to comment on striker Ross McCormack’s future after Bluebirds’ 4-1 extra-time Carling Cup victory over Burton Albion last night. Town target McCormack scored twice before handing his shirt to a supporter at the end of the match, something which has been interpreted as a farewell by Cardiff fans.

Jones says he doesn’t speak about deals until they are done and dusted: “I’ll talk about players when things are rubber-stamped and not before. While they’re here they are Cardiff City players.”

The Blues and Bluebirds are understood to be discussing a swap involving McCormack and Jon Stead with a double loan deal now reported to be amongst the options.

Town turned their attentions to McCormack having failed to land team-mate Michael Chopra.

I have just heard back from a mate who is a Cardiff fan who went to the game last night, he got the feeling that McCormack was saying goodbye to the Cardiff fans last night by spending a bit of time with them and giving away all his gear-might be something of nothing but that was the feeling he got. Ok I might be getting my hopes up again now!
