Burley: Pablo Deal Not Yet Done
Burley: Pablo Deal Not Yet Done
Thursday, 19th Aug 2010 16:16

Crystal Palace manager George Burley says there’s still work to do before Pablo Couñago’s loan move to Selhurst Park is completed. The Spaniard is out of favour at Portman Road having fallen out with boss Roy Keane.

Former Town manager Burley says the clubs have been in talks regarding the 31-year-old’s switch: "We have spoken to Ipswich about him but there is nothing settled at the moment. It would be a loan basis for the rest of the season, but we still have got to finalise that.

"There have been too many deals that have fallen through at the last minute in the last couple of months so I never count my chickens until they have actually hatched."

Couñago, who was first brought to Town by Burley in 2001, is out of contract at Portman Road at the end of the season.

Even if the deal goes through before the weekend, Couñago is unlikely to play against Town on Saturday.

Again no new signings - so guess thats none in for saturday? what happened to the three promised ones this week (ok got Odea!) i guess they are with the 'unbelievably close' Striker from a two weeks back that still hasnt arrived! Dont get me wrong thing the start of the season is very promising but we desperately need some depth in the squad and somone other than Prisken to bang in those 20 goals from the front. i am begining to think that Clegg couldnt arrange a P up in a brewery!!!

Adios Pablo, you have been a very good player in the past and it's good to see you and ITFC moving forward.

Can't believe he is 31... seems like yesterday when he joined.
Loads of talent... but little end product.
He has more or less spent his entire career with us, got paid loads of money and was a fans favourite, but when you look at the facts he was bad news for us all the way
1. Breaks our top strikers jaw (ok maybe not his fault)
2. Spends almost an entire season in the prem without scoring
3. Costs us a fortune in wages
4. Rarely scores more than 10 goals a season and only ever had one good season
Ok he is a great talent, link up man etc. but he is 31 past his prime as strikers age quicker than defenders... time to go.

Personally, I don't feel Pablo has much more to offer Ipswich Town. He did play some really good games for us but doesn't appear to fit the mold of what Keane is actually looking for (an out and out goalscorer). Is it true about the rumour that Jack Midson? is having a medical at Ipswich. I looked him up on the Oxford Utd website and can't really understand how he can really replace Walters or Counago...then again I was wrong about Walters when the rumours started-and he turned out to be a fantastic player for us.

The Jack Midson rumours are over the Oxford papers-don't know how true they are though. Looked him up on youtube and has scored a few goals but does seem against lousy defences. If he is unveiled as our new Striker at 8.30 tomorrow I would wonder if he can do the business in the Championship

I wonder how many of the people who are happy to see Pablo go would also be happy if we had Burley as our manager.

And how many of the people who complain about him being greedy would have turned down his wages.

I agree that it is time for him to move on, but, come on, the club is responsible for how much it pays the players - it is OK to say 'no' sometimes....

I believe you can only score goals if you are playing football ! Therefore he is not going to get many goals over a period oy time. just stay and annoy Keano The Great lol !
