Sunderland NF March
Sunderland NF March

Town fans may be unlucky enough to find themselves bumping into an NF march when the Blues play Sunderland on Saturday.

The fascist group plan to march from Sunderland station to Seaburn which will take them past the Stadium of Light.

As usual when there is an NF march there is a counter demonstration planned by the Anti-Nazi League and other similar groups.

However, Home Secretary David Blunkett is trying to have the march banned, but the NF say they will come along regardless of any banning order.

Town are keeping abreast of the situation, Alesha Gooderham: "We are taking advice about the situation there and shall advise supporters in line with that. If things look serious I suppose we will have to consider refunds if people pull out. The safety of our supporters is paramount."

Alun Armstrong could well be in the Town side for Saturday's game at Sunderland. The 26-year-old had been suffering with back pain and was worried it was a recurrence of his serious back problems from his time at Middlesbrough.

However, a trip to see a specialist has revealed his current problem is nothing to do with his old injury and he is likely to go back into training tomorrow.

Physio Dave Williams said: "Alun visited a physiotherapy specialist in London that I know very well and respect a great deal. He confirmed what I believed, that the problem is not connected to the old complaint that he experienced at Middlesbrough. This is more of a soft tissue problem."

Jamie Clapham has recovered from a hamstring problem while Mark Venus has bruised ribs but should be OK to travel to the north-east. Matt Holland will return to training tomorrow.
