Baggott Signs New Deal Friday, 22nd Aug 2025 13:38 Town central defender Elkan Baggott has signed a new deal which runs to the summer of 2028.
The 22-year-old has made six starts and one senior appearance for the Blues, scoring one goal.
The Indonesia international has spent time on loan at King’s Lynn, Gillingham, Cheltenham, Bristol Rovers and last season Blackpool, and looks set to be sent out for another spell again this season.
The Bangkok-born, Colchester-raised centre-half was previously contracted to this summer but with the deal having an option for an additional year.

I think he has huge potential if only he can get a full season in the bank to push him on

He's 22, he should be pushing for first team games by now. If he goes out on loan who does it benefit. Sorry but time has come to move him on.

I would rather the squad position been given to him instead of signing Kipre on loan.

A lower Championship team: maybe QPR, who we play last, (so if he's a star for them, he can sit it out whilst we get the 3 points needed for promotion!)

I’ve never seen him olay but Steve Bruce rates him and he must be quite a good judge of a centre back. I’d prefer him to get game time with us rather than signing the South American fella. Save our money for a central midfielder and a number 9.

Sensible decision by all parties. Really like Baggot and he's a good character too. Obviously the club's recent progress naturally deprived him of fully breaking through but there's a classy player there and when you think of how crazy the transfer fees have become, it makes sense to keep him. It also demonstrates to future youngsters that we keep our word in terms of finding the best route for you (out on loan at times etc.).

I wonder (worry) that this is simply to maximize his value rather than indicating his future here, as with Woolfy's contract extension. Sound business I guess, as long as individuals not being sold a false narrative.

Call me cynical, but he is here to sell shirts and merchandise to 285 million football crazy Indonesia's.

As is Al Hamidi. Commercial value. Social media is awash with Iraqi's loving him. Excellent business Mr Ashton.

Could be that they see him as cover in defence because Woolfy will go. I saw Baggott play in a Cup Game when we were last in the Championship we lost 1-3 and he scored. He stood out for me and I am surprised we aren't giving him more of a chance to seal a place.

Pleased with this. On his rare appearances he has looked decent. Ball playing left footed centre halves are not easy to find. He just needs to steer clear of injuries which seem to have blighted his progress so far.
